King County Metro TransitsRail Divisionis seeking an experienced and strategic leader to serve as the Track & ROW MaintenanceTransit Chief

In this role you will oversee the coordination direction and supervision of personnel responsible for maintaining railway signals and communications equipment. This position offers incredible benefits and the opportunity to lead a highly skilled workforce in contributing to Metros mission of providing safe reliable transportation options to our community.

About Metro Transits Expanding Rail Division

King County Metro Transits Rail Division manages and maintains Sound Transits Link light rail service and City of Seattles streetcar system. Link light rail currently spans a 33mile route from SeaTac to Lynnwood and a 6.6mile route from Redmond to South Bellevue. By the end of 2026 light rail is projected to expand to nearly 60 route miles adding seven new stations. Additional expansions to the Link system will be coming online for years to come.

Seattle Streetcar includes the 1.3 mile South Lake Union line and the 2.5 mile First Hill line proudly serving the diverse and vibrant communities around Seattles downtown core. These rail services complement Metros extensive fixedroute bus system and mobility services. Puget Sound transit agencies are collaborating to create an integrated transit network that enables people to travel farther faster and more easily.

This recruitment will immediately fill one 1 fully benefitted Special Duty Assignment (SDA) position with an anticipated duration of 6 months with the potential to extend. This recruitment may be used to create an eligibility list to fill future Special Duty Assignment (SDA) openings in this classification and within this division. Eligibility lists remain valid for six 6 months upon creation or until the list is exhausted at the discretion of the hiring authority.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Skill in supervising leading selecting and coaching a highly talented employee group recognize the importance of building relationships and trust with employees and be excited and motivated to manage our diverse employee team.
  • Familiarity with human resource and leadership concepts and principles with dedication to employees and the management of their performance and development of their skills.
  • Skill incritical thinking particularly as it relates to emergency management workforce planning and continuous process improvement.
  • Knowledge of the principles practices and techniques of labor relations including interestbased or collaborative labor negotiations grievance and arbitration processes and relevant labor agreements.
  • Knowledge of the policies and procedures of the Transit Rail Division and applicable County polices.

Necessary Special Requirements
  • Valid Washington State Driver License (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire) with an acceptable driving history.
  • Class B CDL with air brake restrictions removed or able to obtain one within 6months after hire (training provided) to operate hirail aerial lift and related equipment.

Work Schedule

This position is anticipated to be full time assigned 40 hours per week Graveyard shift. Employees must be able to work this shift. Work schedule may include non standard work hours including evenings weekends and holidays as needed.This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore not eligible for overtime pay.

SAFETY SENSITIVE

These positions are considered safetysensitive. Applicants for positions defined as safetysensitive are required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and subsequent to the commencement of employment will be subject to random postaccident reasonable suspicion return to duty and followup drug and alcohol testing in compliance with Federal DOT alcohol and controlled substances testing program protocols.


Working Conditions
Time is spent working both indoors and outdoors and in inclement weather. This position requires the use of everyday office equipment and supplies the driving of heavy trucks involved in track and ROW maintenance as needed and the use of typical maintenance tools and equipment as well as stooping and bending motions as necessary to demonstrate procedures or to inspect work.

Union Membership:This position is represented byProfessional & Technical Employees (PROTEC) Local 17.
