Were looking for two fulltime permanent Crisis Workers Telephone Crisis Line (Nights) to join our team!


The Crisis Worker will respond to telephone crisis calls for individuals over the age of 16 in crisis who may be experiencing symptoms of mental illness and addiction. The Crisis Worker works in collaboration with other members of the Crisis Services team. This includes a systemic approach for the assessment of adults in crisis to stabilize and manage the current crisis. The Crisis Worker conducts risk and safety assessments offers support collaborates in safety planning and supports navigation of resources in the community.


Status: Permanent fulltime 12 hour overnight shifts including weekends and public holidays on a rotational basis. Note this posting is for an active vacancy

Salary:$75278.74 $87411.79 annually.
(Candidate qualifications will be considered when determining the starting salary)

Location:
This position is based out of 60 West Drive Brampton. Although we operate within a hybrid workplace model staff are required tohave onsite and/or community presence as per program and client needs.


What you will do

  • Provide immediate response on the crisis line and determine the most appropriate type of crisis intervention when a client calls in crisis.
  • Crisis intervention to understand the factors contributing to the current difficulties for callers in developing a working formulation.
  • Provide support and followup post crisis with shortterm telephone support or by connecting clients to appropriate followup agencies.
  • Contact with clients and families the need for further clinical service including arranging mobile crisis response as appropriate.
  • Complete a mental health assessment for clients in crisis.
  • Recommend measures to help protect clients and others by developing safety plans.
  • Utilize their sound working knowledge of resources partnerships and working relationships and participate in ongoing professional development and supervision around crisis work.
  • Assist in identifying and developing goals towards understanding prevention treatment and rehabilitation of individuals with mental illness.
  • Attend and actively participate in team meetings and other clientrelated meetings and program meetings as required
  • Maintain appropriate recordkeeping/documentation and client files statistical and outcome measurement tools as required by CMHA/Peel policies and procedures.

What You Need to Join Our Team

  • University Degree in Social Work BSc. Nursing Occupational Therapy or Masters degree in Counselling Psychology
  • Must be a Regulated Health Professional or a Registered Social Worker (RSW) and adhere to standards of practice as per designated college.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in acute mental health sector preferably in the community.
  • Demonstrated experience with crisis intervention techniques and theorybased practice in working with the seriously mentally ill.
  • Demonstrated and previous knowledge on risk assessments suicide prevention and principles of crisis theory and intervention.
  • Demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour.
  • A good understanding of the Mental Health Act and DSM V as it relates to crisis intervention.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and in partnership with a multidisciplinary team and other agencies in the community including the ability to work with police court system inpatient and outpatient mental health systems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to approach listen build trust and communicate across diverse cultures and intersectionality. Willingness to continually improve understanding around cultural competence.
  • Openness to operate from an antiracist antioppressive 2SLGBTQ affirming and intersectional framework.
  • Willingness to learn and apply practical understanding of different elements of diversity such as gender identity/expression race/cultural background religion sexual orientation disability immigration and precarious status family status etc.
  • Fluency in a second language including ASL (American Sign Language) is considered an asset.
  • Valid Canadian drivers license and access to an insured automobile in good repair
  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) report and an annual criminal records check (Police Check) is required
  • Ability to work 12hour overnight shifts on a rotational schedule including weekends and public holidays
