Job Description

Description

This position is a fulltime livein professional staff position in the department of Housing & Residence Life within the division of Student Affairs. This position is primarily responsible for an assigned area of oncampus housing area which totalsresidents. The area coordinator is the primary facilitator in the development of a residential learning environment facility management and overall administrative operations. The incumbent in this position must be willing to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends. Duties include direct supervision of 1520 paraprofessional student staff including resident advisors sorority house managers graduate assistants advising student groups and ancillary duties as assigned.

Essential Job Duties

  • Recruit select train develop support mentor and evaluate paraprofessional and graduatelevel staff assigned for assigned building(s)/area;
  • Coordinate conduct and/or attend meetings with paraprofessional staff support staff professional staff divisional staff and other members of the University community;
  • Assist in recruitment and selection of professional staff support staff and paraprofessional staff.
  • Maintain direct communication with all area staff by:
    • Providing necessary followup on various area concerns/problems;
    • Ensuring effective feedback to department staff;
    • Developing and maintaining communications between staff and residents and promote good public relations;
    • Ensuring prompt dissemination of information to staff and students;
    • Scheduling regular staff meetings;
  • Plan and implement staff development programs and training opportunities;
  • Provide professional development and supervision to paraprofessional staff through goal setting regular individual consultation structured developmental experience and periodic performance appraisals;
  • Create opportunities for staff to share in development and evaluation of intraarea and interdepartmental policies and procedures;
  • Review and revise staff manuals annually;
  • Provide leadership and direction in the planning development and implementation of themed living communities including but not limited to Honors Leadership Sorority International First Year Experience etc.;
  • Serve as catalyst for student selfgovernance and a wide range of educational developmental social and recreational opportunities;
  • Demonstrate an understanding of student development and higher education;
  • Study the diverse characteristics of students through participation in workshop presentations research and interpersonal relationships;
  • Cultivate successful professional relationships with students parents departmental staff university support staff campus partners and other campus departments;
  • Serve on committees as directed assigned or voluntarily as a department representative;
  • Counsel and advise both students and staff;
  • Serve as an educational program consultant and resource agent for the student staff;
  • Oversee the student conduct process within an assigned residential area assuring due process of all procedures and that the educational approach is maintained. All conduct cases shall be handled as described in the Student Handbook and in accordance with university policies;
  • Meet with students that are considered to be academically at risk to provide them with support resources and referrals to be successful academically;
  • Provide timely and accurate documentation and communication regarding incidents hearings outcomes and referrals;
  • Familiarize residential students with university and departmental policies procedures and guidelines and ensure appropriate enforcement thereof;
  • Consult with supervisory staff regularly regarding student conduct matters
  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act and a Mandatory Reporter as outlined by Title IX;
  • Utilize university dining facilities for the purpose of building community and maintaining visibility for paraprofessional staff and residential students (partial meal plan provided);
  • Provide general supervision and evaluation of area operations and procedures;
  • Assist in the preparation of the programming and staff training budgets and participate in the budget allocation process;
  • Assist in the annual revision of departmental operation procedures and policies;
  • Conduct weekly inspections of all assigned facilities to ensure that proper standards of sanitation safety maintenance and cleanliness are maintained;
  • Work cooperatively in matters related to hall maintenance environmental services room assignments roommate conflicts verification of occupancy and hall/room/apartment damage issues;
  • Process approved room changes within assigned area participate in department wide room change time periods and maintain awareness of roster changes;
  • Oversee opening and closing procedures including but not limited to checkin and checkout processes condition assessments scheduling and administrative functions;
  • Receive and process reports of damages needed repairs and items of a similar nature and followup regarding completion of repairs;
  • Maintain professional relationships and communication with facilities and environmental services staff;
  • Monitor and inventory storage areas lounge and public areas in area of assignment;
  • Establish and maintain a semester duty schedule for daily supervision of residential facilities including evenings weekends holiday breaks;
  • Understand and disseminate emergency procedures and guidelines to paraprofessional staff residents and outside cooperating departments/agencies;
  • Collaborate with local and university authorities in responding to emergencies;
  • Submit annual endofterm annual reports as requested by supervisor(s);
  • Assist with the development and administration of departmental assessment instruments. Interpret and provide written results;
  • Serve in the duty rotation for the oncampus housing system to include but not limited to daily coverage weekend coverage and break coverage;
  • Assume additional responsibilities as required;
  • Oversee special projects and collateral assignments during summer including but not limited to staff development and training research and assessment summer hall camps and conferences and recruitment and orientation.
  • Attend conferences workshops and trainings as funds provide and present programs when possible;
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of a bachelors degree required;
  • Masters degree in college student personnel higher education administration college and university leadership or related field preferred;
  • Prior residence hall livein experience as either student staff or as professional staff is required;
  • Required to live in an oncampus residential apartment.
