Gradepa The Heritage Projects Officer post is being funded by Historic England and Havering Council
This role is crucial in engaging the community and local stakeholders informing the heritage strategy developing regional and national strategic relationships disseminating learning and securing external funding to support the sustainable conservation of Haverings heritage assets and at risk sites.
Heritage Capacity Building:
Develop grow and supporta robust networkof heritage organisations across Havering fostering collaboration organisational development and partnershipbuilding to create a more cohesive and professionalised sector.
Lead capacitybuilding initiativesaimed at upskilling heritage professionals and volunteers ensuring the sector is equipped with the necessary skills for sustainable heritage management.
Support local heritage organisationsin adopting and implementing sustainable practices including strategies to reduce their carbon footprint and improve environmental stewardship.
Empower heritage organisationsto become more resilient and selfsufficient by providing guidance on governance fundraising and strategic planning.
Facilitate partnershipsbetween local regional and national organisations to enhance the reach and impact of heritage activities in Havering ensuring alignment with the boroughs cultural strategy A Good Life.
2. Community Engagement and Outreach:
Lead community engagement and upskilling activitiesincluding heritage education programmes public consultations and volunteer recruitment.
Project managea series of heritage conferences to engage local regional and national stakeholders and contribute to sharing the learning from the project.
Support the developmentof more inclusive and accessible engagement with heritage.
Assist Haverings heritage sectorin better including children young people and those historically underrepresented within heritage engagement and representation disseminating the learning from this practice and helping heritage organisations to better realise community and individual wellbeing benefits of heritage through active participation
3. Heritage Conservation and Promotion:
Act as lead in ensuring appropriate approaches and projects are in place to monitor and address the needs of Haverings Heritage at Risk register sites
Contribute to the monitoring the conditionof Haverings heritage assets developing conservation strategies in collaboration with relevant experts.
Promote Haverings heritagethrough various media including social media public events and educational materials.
Act as first point of contacton heritage strategic issues providing guidance to council officers and members.
4. Strategic Planning and Reporting:
Develop Haverings Heritage Strategyensuring it reflects the needs of the community and aligns with broader cultural goals.
Work with Haverings Local Plan team to help integrate cultural and heritage assessment planning into the Local Plan process utilising innovative new methodology and sharing the learning from this process widely with other local authorities.
Contribute to ensuring the effective development of Havering London the boroughs new cultural and place making organisation ensuring heritage is best reflected within the work of the new organisation.
Contribute to the evaluationof the Havering Unearthed project ensuring the effective cross sector dissemination of the learning.
5. Fundraising:
Develop and facilitate Haverings relationship with strategic funders of heritage related activity including Historic England the National Heritage Lottery Fund English Heritage Greater London Authority etc ensuring Havering plays an active role in regional and national heritage sector and aligns with and contributes to the strategic objectives of those funders
Identify and secure external fundingpreparing grant applications and managing funded projects in accordance with funding requirements including helping secure the onward funding required to contribute this post beyond the initial two years
6. Health and Safety:
Ensure that all heritage activitiesdelivered by the role comply with health and safety regulations particularly when managing sites in poor condition or during public events.
7. Employee Responsibilities:
Attend council meetings working groups and external meetingsas a representative of Havering Council and Havering London.
Demonstrate a flexible approachto work performing duties in line with the general responsibilities of the post and the needs of the service.
To deliver the heritage related projects of the A Good Life programme aims in accordance with the conditions of third party grants
