Job Description

Overview

The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) provides support to the Director and Managers within the division as well as across patient care services. They assist coordinate and influence nursing practice excellence in the patient care area. The APN acts as a resource person for patient care team members and works cooperatively within the hospital community to coordinate nursing policy and education of staff maintain standards of care and performance improvement consistent with and under the direction of the established strategic plan goals and objectives for Patient Care Services.

Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Demonstrates clinical leadership as a role model for team members.
  • Consults nursing management regarding issues or barriers in delivery of care staff achievement of competency system concerns provider concerns or specific patient care barriers.
  • Participates in divisional and hospital shared governance infrastructure.
  • Coordinate and lead hospitalwide patient initiatives as assigned by Director

Clinical Excellence

  • Maintains current knowledge of trends and advances in nursing practice.
  • Facilitates development implementation and evaluation of changes in patient care based on published evidence.
  • Assists with formulation of evidencebased nursing policy and procedure.
  • Partners with providers and patient care team members to achieve patient care outcomes.

Education

  • Serves as a resource to patient care team members based on professional standards of care.
  • Provides support and resources to the division for onboarding of new patient care team members.
  • Supports competency development and implementation within the division for patient care team members.

Quality Improvement

  • Identifies pertinent research EBP and/or PI questions arising from clinical practice.
  • Assists with formulation of evidencebased nursing policy and procedure.
  • Reports research EBP and/or PI findings to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Supports performance improvement initiatives within the division.
  • Mentors staff on improvement process and implementation principles.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited nursing program
  • Masters degree in nursing or healthcarerelated field
  • Current RN licensure in the State of Iowa or compact state
  • Current BLS certification
  • Writes reads comprehends and speaks fluent English.
  • Multicultural sensitivity.
  • Microsoft Office basic computer skills.
  • Customer/patient focused.
  • Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.
  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
