Job Description

The Department of Music at Washington University in St. Louis seeks a fulltime Lecturer to serve as Director of Strings and Chamber Music. The successful candidate will begin in Fall 2025 and will be eligible for renewal and promotion as outlined in the Arts & Sciences Policy on FullTime TeachingTrack Faculty.

The person in this role will assume a variety of responsibilities related to performance programs in a liberal arts department with active faculty engagement at all levels of undergraduate and graduate instruction and will teach in and coordinate the applied strings division. Duties include: supervising degree recitals and divisional performance classes teaching applied lessons in their area of specialization and undergraduate lecture courses such as Musicianship coordinating chamber music assignments and schedules managing teachers in the strings division advising students and participating in department governance. The successful candidate will have a strong record of professional performance and creative activity and will show a commitment to furthering diversity equity and inclusion. The department will support the successful candidate in pursuing opportunities for professional development during the duration of the position.



Required Qualifications

Masters degree in Music

Evidence of successful university teaching in applied strings chamber music and classroom settings. A commitment to working with a wide range of students to improve their individual technique musical understanding artistry and ensemble skills

Evidence of successful teaching of students with varying levels of experience and skill including music majors minors and nonmajors/minors

Broad knowledge of strings literature and performance practice

Keyboard proficiency

Demonstrated evidence of successful leadership and administrative experience

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Demonstrated ability to cultivate learning environments that are equitable and inclusive of students with diverse social identities and backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications

DMA PhD or Artist Diploma

Demonstrated professional concert experience as an orchestral chamber and solo musician

Participation in professional academic and/or music associations
