Job Description


The Mission Bay Hospital Supervisor/Clinical Resource Nurse is recognized as an administrative leader and clinical resource who continually seeks to improve patient care delivery through problem solving on a broad level. Utilizes the nursing process for assessment planning implementation and evaluation to provide safe therapeutic care. Functions as a leader of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams and facilitates critical thinking of staff in carrying out established nursing procedures and addressing patient care issues. Collaborates with all members of the health care team to provide optimal care. Demonstrates investment in the overall goals of the inpatient units and the organization. Provides nursing care to critical care patients and assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team. Ensures quality patient care is delivered and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice. Assist with the administration and management of personnel fiscal and material resources on a 24hour basis. Assumes responsibility for the units in areas delegated in the absence of the unitbased administrative team. Performs other duties as required.

The Mission Bay Hospital Supervisor/Clinical Resource Nurse provides administrative nursing oversight 24/7 to the adult inpatient nursing units at the Mission Bay Campus. The supervisory component of this role includes collaboration with the Parnassus Hospital Supervisor to manage and allocate staffing needs for the adult inpatient units risk management issue resolution service recovery and patient flow management. S/he also serve as the primary member of the rapid response team and code blue team provides break relief in the ICU when applicable provides peripheral vascular access on difficult access patients assist with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team carries out established nursing procedures manages urgent/emergent clinical issues in the adult outpatient setting and performs related other duties as required.
Based on operational needs incumbent can be assigned as Hospital Supervisor at Mount Zion or Parnassus.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

  • Demonstrated skills to effectively supervise clinicians and to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with a patient care unit.
  • In depth knowledge of patient care clinical standards and care delivery systems external regulations and internal policies.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to quickly analyze problems determine appropriate level of intervention and develop and apply effective solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective information exchange and problem solving with all levels of management and staff consultants and outside agencies.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills with the ability to train and mentor subordinates to convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner and to prepare and present a variety of reports documentation analyses and project proposals.
  • Ability to flex schedule up to 100 for meetings projects or committee work.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in the charge nurse role and/or through mentoring/staff development or committee work.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position
  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing




    • Strong knowledge of human resources management policies with the ability to train monitor evaluate and document human resources matters and performance and to provide input to decisionmaking on human resources matters.
    • Knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in nursing units or departments.
    • Masters Degree


    • Registered Nurse in the State of California
    • Current American Heart Association CPR and ACLS
    • Bachelors Degree in Nursing
