Legal Internships Academic Year 2025-2026

In addition to our internships being paid we will also offer the following for our Academic Year interns:

Academic Year Recruitment Timeline: 

April 21 May 9: Applications Open (may close early due to applicant volume) 

Early May Mid June: First round video interviews  

Mid June Mid July: Second round interviews 

Throughout July: Selected candidates receive offers 

Academic Year Internship Program:

• Program Dates: September 15 2025 April 17 2026 

• Time Commitment: 1624 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need. We will do our best to accommodate course schedules.

Universal Filmed Entertainment Group: (UFEG) consists of the operations to produce acquire market and distribute filmed entertainment worldwide in various media formats for theatrical home entertainment television and other distribution platforms. Universal Studio Group: (USG) encompasses NBCUniversals television production studios: Universal Television (UTV) Universal Content Productions (UCP) NBCUniversal International Studio and Universal Television Alternative Studio (UTAS). Areas of placement may include but are not limited to: 

• Global Distribution Rights & Clearances: The Rights & Clearances legal intern will support the Global Distribution team in the drafting and negotiation of contracts including primarily agreements relating to the licensing of film and television content for television and digital/new media customers worldwide in various media. 

• Universal Studio Group Legal Affairs: Interns will assist show lawyers with vetting television show scripts for legal risks making clearance determinations for productionrelated materials and other issuespotting and analysis. Interns will also conduct legal research on issues that may arise during the production of both unscripted and scripted television shows. 

• Legal Music Business & Legal Affairs: NBCUniversal Music Business & Legal Affairs services an array of clients in the Film & Television portfolios. Filmed Entertainment encompasses the Universal Pictures Group Focus Features Universal Studios Home Entertainment and Brand Development. The overall landscape of Film includes distinct business functions that each touch a key segment area in the overall lifecycle of a film from ideation to premiere. On the TV side there is a vast portfolio of sports news networks streaming entertainment networks and significant television production operations including scripted alternative and late night and a leading television stations interns responsibilities may include the following: researching music rights analyzing and summarizing music deal terms drafting music talent agreements reviewing production content for music information and assisting with tracking rights analysis grid maintenance. 

• Peacock Business & Legal Affairs: The Peacock Business & Legal Affairs team consists of approximately 25 lawyers paralegals and professional staff.  The team is divided into three main areas:
  1 Product & Technology 2 Marketing & Partnerships and 3 Regulatory Compliance and Privacy. The Peacock Business & Legal Affairs provides guidance and deal support for businesses within the global streaming portfolio including Peacock. The teams main areas of expertise are technology transactions platform syndication ecommerce and gift cards rights acquisition marketing and promotions commercial partnerships information security and consumer protection and privacy regulation. The legal intern would support the legal teams as needed on a variety of projects and would report to senior lawyers in each area.  This role will support both transactional and regulatory attorneys which may include preparing summaries and selfhelp tools preparing draft agreements based on a template and observing deal negotiations and attorneyclient interactions.

Qualifications :

Basic Requirements: 

• Must be actively enrolled in a degreegranting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (September 2025 through April 2026. December 2025 graduates are not eligible for ourAcademic Year Internship Program. 

• Current class standing of sophomore or above 30 credits). 

• Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future toretain authorization to work in the United States. 

• Must be available to work 1624 hours per week from September 15 2025 April 17 2026.  

• Must be willing to work in Universal City CA. 

For further clarification candidates currently on any student or exchange visa (e.g. F1 CPT F1 OPT J1 M1 are not eligible to apply unless they will be able to change or adjust to another status that grants work authorization without NBCUniversal sponsorship.  

NBCUniversal is an EVerify company requiring all employees to have an active Social Security number. Any candidate receiving an internship offer must complete I9 form with Social Security number within 3 days of hire.   

Desired Characteristics: 

• Must be a current J.D. candidate in good standing. 

• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above. 

• Selfstarter professional and ability to adapt. 

• Excellent oral and written communication skills. 

• Proficiency in MS Office (Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook). 

• For Legal Music Business & Legal Affairs: Ability to understand music related concepts and contractual language. 

The hourly rate for JD student interns is $25.00.
