JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Seasonal FIRE Foundry Supervisor

Department: Natural Resources

Reports To: FIRE Foundry Program Coordinator

Location: San Geronimo CA

FLSA Status: FullTime Temporary NonExempt from Wage and Hour Laws

Directly Supervises: 12 FIRE Foundry program participants

Role with Agency: Supervisory

Position Duration: May December 2025


SUMMARY

The Seasonal FIRE Foundry Supervisor will make significant contributions to providing a positive work environment that values diversity and fosters a commitment to teamwork and learning. The Seasonal FIRE Foundry Supervisor is responsible for all aspects of supervision for a crew of 12 young adults. The Seasonal FIRE Foundry Supervisor will lead the crew in successfully completing a wide range of fire fuel reduction projects as part of the FIRE Foundry program. The FIRE Foundry Program is a collaboration between CCNB Marin County Fire Department Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority U.C. Berkeley Stanford University the College of Marin and the Marin Office of Equity to establish an emerging science and technologysavvy communityoriented wildfire prevention workforce by providing job training and skills development for underserved underrepresented and underfunded youth in Marin County. This position is a temporary nonbenefited position with an assignment length of May 2025 through December 2025.


RESPONSIBILITIES (include but not limited to):

  • Participant supervision including:
  • Facilitating personal and professional development
  • Supporting career development goals
  • Providing training including tool use teamwork leadership skills and workplace communication
  • Developing proper work habits
  • Collaborating with the FIRE Foundry Program Coordinator to compile and deliver quarterly evaluations to participants
  • Taking action to resolve inappropriate behavior and personnel issues and collaborating with the FIRE Foundry Program Coordinator to issue disciplinary actions
  • Collaborating with the FIRE Foundry Program Coordinator to accurately track and record time and attendance records
  • Participate in the morning circle to prepare the crew for the day
  • Field project management including:
    • Leading crew members toward successful completion of fire fuel reduction projects
    • Oversee projects to ensure a level of quality and productivity that meets the expectations of CCNB and our project partners
    • Collaborate with projects sponsors to plan work activities
    • Ensuring that all safety procedures are followed and implementing aspects of CCNBs safety program including documentation of safety trainings
    • Ensuring that the crew is prepared with all necessary tools equipment and supplies for the job site
    • Providing projectspecific training on topics such as tool use local ecology and environmental conditions native plants sensitive habitats and more
    • Ensuring that all tools and equipment are used and maintained properly
    • Maintaining records of project accomplishments and photographs and sharing records with appropriate project stakeholders

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Two or more years of experience and technical skills in fire fuel reduction or similar natural resources management field projects.
  • One or more years of supervisory experience in a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising and motivating young adults from diverse social economic and educational backgrounds.
  • Conversational Spanish language skills.
  • Sufficient mastery of power tools (chainsaw hedge trimmer brush cutter woodchipper) to be able to supervise safe tool operation and to teach their use up to a Sawyer 3 level.
  • Experience in the operation of trucks and trailers.
  • Strong commitment to CCNBs mission and organizational values and a proven ability to work with people from a wide variety of social economic and educational backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts and mediate disputes.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and OSHA regulations related to natural resources management landscaping and working in wilderness locations.
  • Clean driving record and possession of a CA Class C drivers license and ability to pass CCNBs driving exam.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain certification within 2 months of hire)
  • Ability to do strenuous work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Associate degree or vocational training in environmental science natural resources ecology earth sciences sustainability education or a related field is preferred.
  • Training and certifications including S212 Wildland Fire Chainsaws Firefighter 1 or Firefighter 2 courses wilderness medicine or similar are desirable.

The FIRE Foundry Crew Supervisor works outdoors around equipment and machinery walking on uneven ground and steep hillsides with exposure to excessive noise fumes and extremes in temperature. They may be expected to lift and move objects weighing up to 75 lbs and carry objects at least mile. This position frequently uses special visual and auditory protective equipment. While performing the duties of this position the Seasonal FIRE Foundry Supervisor is required to walk and stand; sit and bend; squat and climb; kneel and twist; to talk and hear. The Seasonal FIRE Foundry Supervisor uses hands to operate objects tools or controls; and reaches with hands and arms. Seasonal FIRE Foundry Supervisor uses hands to perform simple and power grasping and fine manipulation; to push and pull.


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The Seasonal FIRE Foundry Supervisor position is a fulltime temporary nonexempt position.

Starting pay is $27.00$29.00/hour depending on experience. This position accrues sick pay.
