Cat Placement Manager
APA! BACKGROUND:
Austin Pets Alive! (APA! is one of Austins most dynamic and bestloved nonprofits. The organization is the leader in the no movement nationally and is considered a national thought leader in animal welfare. APA! locally rescues treats and adopts out 10000 homeless dogs and cats each year providing the safety net for Austins most atrisk shelter pets which helps Austin to be a nokill city while also assisting other communities in saving homeless animals. The organization is distinguished by the spiness of its grassroots nontraditional communitybased animal rescue work.
The organization continues to innovate best practices to save lives and teaches its renowned lifesaving model through American Pets Alive! APA!s national division. In 2020 AmPA! began the Human Animal Support Services (HASS) project a collaborative movement of more than 10000 animal welfare professionals working in nearly 1900 organizations. HASS is the firstofitskind collective of shelters and animal welfare professionals coming together to build communityfocused animal services that better meet the needs of people and pets by keeping humananimal families together and keeping pets unnecessarily out of shelters.
POSITION SUMMARY & OVERVIEW:
The Cat Placement Manager is responsible for supervising teams engaged in the marketing adoption placement and foster placement of cats under APA!s care. This pivotal role ensures the Cat Placement Team maintains exemplary standards of customer service while setting fosters and adopters up for success. Additionally oversight of Cat Adoption Centers falls within their purview alongside spearheading the growth and enhancement of the cat placement program. This includes initiatives aimed at bolstering the programs capacity to accommodate vulnerable cat populations and streamlining processes to reduce the length of stay for all cats within APA!.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manage placement department processes policies protocols schedules goals and metrics; while maintaining a commitment to APA!s open placement policies and excellent customer services
- Oversee recruitment management training and celebration of cat placement staff and volunteers to ensure that they follow all APA! policies procedures and protocols and execute all responsibilities
- Achieve 50 volunteer engagement target through strategic recruitment initiatives robust retention programs and comprehensive training development.
- Develop training and onboarding plans for staff and volunteers
- Identify volunteer opportunities and work with volunteer team to recruit volunteers
- Develop strong working relationships with Cat Placement Team Leads in order to assist their teams in both daily function and growth.
- Work closely with other animal department managers (primarily cat neonatal and clinic) to develop and implement projects to improve program outcomes and meet shared goals
- Conduct daily rounds at the Cat Adoption Centers to ensure all cats receive proper care promptly report and address any medical issues and maintain detailed records for monitoring their health and wellbeing.
- Maintain communication with marketing and development departments to ensure program needs are represented in overall APA! marketing and fundraising efforts
- Track key performance indicators from all angles to identify gaps and potential areas of improvement and to ensure that cats are adopted as quickly as possible thus maximizing the capacity of the program to save more lives
- Handle customer service issues and incidents related to placement services
- Have a shelter presence to handle onsite customer service experiences and assist in tasks relating to cat placements
- Perform Manager on Duty tasks when onsite including handson assistance of onsite teams whenever necessary customer assistance and interteam liaisons

- Attend and participate in all required training sessions and meetings
- Maintain open and consistent communication with Program Manager or designee supervisor and other colleagues
- Partner with Volunteer Managers to learn about the volunteer programs and manage volunteers interested in your department on an ongoing basis
- Able to react to change productively and perform other related duties as assigned
- Able to work evenings weekends and holidays as needed
- Able to work in a high volume fastpaced highstress environment
QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS AND EXPECTATIONS
- At least two 2 years of people and program management experience preferably in a shelter or animal welfare setting
- Attention to detail and superior organizational skills
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Proficiency in using databases to track analyze and act on data
- Ability to diffuse escalated customer service experiences while maintaining the integrity of APA! Protocols
- Proficiency with Google Workspace
- Positive teamoriented supportive attitude
- Ability to work with different team priorities towards a common goal
- Ability to take direction and problem solve

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to routinely lift 4050 pounds
- Must be able to work around animals (including diseased injured and/or potentially aggressive animals) loud noises chlorine or other chemicals and inclement weather
- Must be able to comfortably interact with cats/dogs of various health levels including cats who may carry zoonotic diseases such as ringworm scabies intestinal parasites etc.
- Able to be on your feet for multiple hours of the day
- Must be able to visually observe people and animals from up to 150 feet away
- Ability to hear normal speech at close contact and shouting up to 150 feet away with the ability to hear and discern dog vocalizations both soft and loud
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to be on your feet for long periods of time
- Must be able to focus in a loud and busy environment despite distractions
- Must be able to walk around shelter as needed uneven ground keeping a safe distance from dogs and handlers
- Must be able to visually observe people and animals from up to 150 feet away
- Will sit stand walk talk hear stoop bend stretch squat kneel grasp grip put fingers together firmly and reach above and below shoulder level lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds and push and pull up to 50 pounds for situations of moving supplies and setting up for events; repetitively use hands to operate computers; flex the neck upward and downward; twist the neck and the waist.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Standard office environment with exposure to environmental conditions that include working with and near animals

TIME COMMITMENT:
- This is a fulltime exempt position with an average of 40 hours per week.
- Shift and schedule flexibility is required as weekly schedule is subject to change
- Able to work evenings weekends and holidays as needed
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The Cat Placement Manager reports to the Animal Placement Program Manager.
The Cat Placement Manager supervises the Team Leads for the Onsite (TLAC) Cat Placement Team the Offsite Cat Placement Team and the Cat Placement Specialists.
The Cat Placement Manager serves as a liaison between the Cat Programs and other APA! teams including the Neonatal Program and the Medical Clinic. The Cat Placement Manager will also work in conjunction with the Cat Care Manager the Cat Foster & Adoption Support Manager and the Specialty Lifesaving Programs Manager.
