Job Description

Job Description Summary

Perform a variety of duties required to prepare patients and conduct diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine examinations. Updates logs and performs Quality Control surveys for contamination of daily shipments of stock radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with NRC regulations.

Prepares patient doses identifies verifies and documents all radiopharmaceuticals.
Performs Quality Control assessments on camera systems calibration instruments and radiopharmaceuticals.
Interviews patients explains procedures and administers prescribed radiopharmaceuticals following appropriate two identifier process.
Maintains safety standards and records necessary information of usage and disposal of radioactive media in compliance with Nuclear Regulatory requirements.
Maintains accreditation status with ACR.
Places daily order for radiopharmaceuticals.
Performs cardiac studies in conjunction with the Cardiology Department and prepares the digital data for review by the radiologist and cardiologist.
Upon completion of patient studies sends images to SECTRA confirming study with all appropriate labels with associated comments in the EPIC System.
Performs cardiac gated computer analysis on digital images.
Completes general unit department specific competencies including age specific competencies and dysrhythmia course.
Performs other related duties as required.
Required Licensure Certifications Registrations:

Must be a certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT)
Licensure from the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association is required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Job Description

PERFORM RADIOLOGIC EXAMINATIONS TIMLEY ACCURATELY AND SAFELY FOR RADIOLOGIST INTERPRETATION

Timely Assure the schedule does not fall behind; exam delays are communicated to all stakeholders. Exams are routed to PACS for interpretation as soon as complete.
Accurately per exam protocol using appropriate anatomical markers and positioning aids. Images are free of artifacts and motion. Assure exams are read in a timely manner and all logs are completed.
Safely All patients are screened for patient and technologist identification patient history and safety protocols. Medial history reviewed for exam indications and contraindications.

ASSURE THE RADIOLOGY SUITE AND ADJACENT CLINICAL AND COMMON AREAS ARE PREPARED TO RECEIVE PATIENTS/VISITORS.

Equipment assure all needed equipment is available and in working order perform quality control per ACR and manufacturer report equipment errors or downtime directly to the service vendor and manager as well as clinical staff.
Suite/Clinical and common areas assure all needed medical supplies are ordered and stowed assure exam room and patient areas are clean and equipment is cleaned per manufacturer OSHA DHEC and MUSC infection control guidelines. Report any environmental issues timely to the manager.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ability to evaluate and appropriately respond to verbal and nonverbal communication from patients diverse stages of development.
  • Completes procedures following approved procedure protocols with sufficient speed to promote departmental efficiency.
  • Completes required documentation for each procedure both computer and handwritten.
  • Demonstrates technical competence in the operation of imaging equipment and the use of procedure related supplies. Complete knowledge of related physics anatomy imaging techniques and medical terminology.
  • Introduces self to patients explains the procedure assists the patient at the end of the procedure and explains the next steps.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor in attitude appearance and communication.
  • Obtains pertinent history verifies orders and communicates effectively with coworkers and other clinic staff to provide excellent patient care.

Physical Requirements:

Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist kneel climb stairs reach in all directions fully use both hands and legs possess good finger dexterity perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift lower push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs / unassisted exert up to 50 lbs of force lift from 36 to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.

Additional Job Description

Education: Graduate of an ARRT or NMTCB recognized Nuclear Medicine Program required. Work Experience: 02 years in Radiologic experienceMust be a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) from the NMTCB or Registered Technologist (RT (N) from ARRT or registry eligible. If registry eligible must obtain certification within 12 months. Licensure from the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association (SCRQSA) required. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required
