This position will be based in our London office with a hybrid schedule that has the option of working two days remotely each week

About the role:

Industry Practices has been created to deliver market leading multiline solutions for specific high performing industry verticals. Our specialist underwriting team is building a bespoke client centric proposition tailored for the Healthcare industry and is supported by claims and risk engineers. We are looking for a Senior Underwriter with experience in underwriting General Liability and Employers Liability focusing on the Healthcare sector predominately in the UK and Ireland plus International opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Support the expansion of the International Healthcare Practice in line with Syndicate and Company platform plans and underwriting strategy whilst maintaining a focus on bottom line underwriting profit and delivery of both Syndicate and Everest internal plans with a specific focus on General Liability Employers Liability and Medical Malpractice.
  • Actively participate in the building and of the Industry Practice plan.
  • Develop broker & customer relationships and developing new relationships where this is consistent with the objectives set in the Business Plan.
  • Actively invest and be able to demonstrate an expansion of underwriting and product knowledge through dedicated training (internal and external) and working with other underwriters on specific accounts.
  • Have the skills required in managing a portfolio of renewal business including underwriting & pricing referral processing broker and client relationships; and servicing any new business requests in the same way.
  • Represent Everest at meetings both at the Lloyds box in the office and during visits to brokers Coverholders and other customers as required.
  • To refer as appropriate risks exceeding prescribed underwriting authority
  • To monitor all relevant portfolio KPIs for own portfolio of accounts and support the Deputy Head of Healthcare across the broader portfolio.
  • To liaise with the Claims Manager and the wider claims team on claims related issues.
  • Work with the actuarial team to effectively price individual risks and add influence to our rating process and dedicated rating models.
  • To participate in the underwriting peer review process at the weekly and monthly underwriting meetings as required.
  • To ensuring all processing and MI is uptodate in respect of any individual accounts
  • To monitor and keep abreast of changes in underwriting regulation and compliance.
  • To assist in the improvement of rating models underwriting manuals service standards marketing materials website as required
  • Underwrite in compliance with Lloyds and Everest prescribed underwriting standards.
  • Business travel as required to support the above objectives and the appropriate management of T&E expenses.

Experience Skills & Competencies

  • Proven experience within an underwriting role with a strong knowledge of writing General and Employers Liability for Healthcare accounts.
  • Knowledge of wholesale and retail business
  • ACII qualified or significant progress towards.
  • Strategic skills show an ability to determine opportunities and threats through comprehensive analysis of current and future trends that may impact our business.
  • Judgment / decision making skills shows ability to use logic rationality and objectivity in decision making.
  • Risk taking show the ability to develop a sound underwriting view to take calculated risks with favourable outcomes.
  • Compliance ability to understand and ensure compliance with all internal and external management and regulatory controls with appropriate support.
  • Market and product knowledge ability to maintain and develop market knowledge including competitor profiles and products.
  • Relationship building developing ability to establish and maintain sound relationships both internally and externally.
