As a leader at Pierce College an innovative and equityfocused community college dedication to helping all students achieve their academic and professional goals the Instructional Dean is responsible for the planning development implementation and assessment of the Business and Social Science Divisions instructional programs in order to achieve student success outcomes in support of Pierce Colleges mission vision and values. The district Dean provides leadership oversight support and evaluation for faculty and staff within assigned disciplines and programs including managing the development and assessment of curricula and programs. Responsibilities include engaging broad data sets in a highly collaborative environment to advance strategic thinking and innovation in academic planning budgeting and intentional action. The Dean is an advocate for the district within internal and external groups. The Instructional Dean engages faculty in shared governance and encourages innovation and professional development in both academic and administrative areas of Pierce College.
This position reports to the Vice President of Learning and Student Success. Instructional Leadership/Supervision:
Provides leadership oversight and evaluation for faculty and staff within assigned disciplines or programs and manages the development and assessment of curricula programs and degrees.
Provides supervision for faculty and staff within assigned disciplines or programs (recruit select train schedule and discipline) and provides recommendations for similar actions to reporting supervisors.
Promotes professional development and supports a collaborative climate which fosters innovation and academic excellence and advances equity diversity and inclusion. Supervises course scheduling faculty assignments and instructional delivery.
Resolves conflicts in division area in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct the Negotiated Agreement and Pierce College policies and practices.
Resolves complaints arising from division activities which may include participating in the process of collective bargaining contract grievances.
Foster Student Success:
Serves as a leader in assuring programs and services advance Black and Brown student excellence and equitably support student achievement and attainment of educational/career goals.
In collaboration with faculty develops curriculum that supports a variety of instructional methods and learning opportunities including computerassisted instruction and eLearning.
Assesses course and program goals in relation to institutional goals and mission.
Engages faculty in planning organizing developing and assessing programs activities and curriculum. Oversees the development coordination and publication of the quarterly and annual schedules and other communications.
Administration:
Manages the operations of the assigned district area and acts as an advisor to the Vice President for Learning and Student Success particularly with regard to items affecting student learning.
Demonstrates commitment to and fully engages in shared governance consultative processes and consensus building.
Works collaboratively with faculty to plan organize develop and evaluate instructional programs.
Participates in strategic enrollment management with administration and for faculty and staff within assigned disciplines or programs.
Ensures the college is in compliance with national and state laws regulations and guidelines.
Recommends develops and implements policies procedures and initiatives related to programs that promote student success and continual improvement.
Ensures that strategic integration of emerging technology and contemporary business practices aid the institution in achieving mission.
Assists in the accreditation process.
Represents Pierce College at assigned community state and national activities.
Actively engages during college and districtwide meetings.
Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Budget and Planning:
Develops recommends and manages budget for assigned areas of programs and services.
Manages financial resources consistent with district policy and sound financial management principles.
Participates in the collaborative annual planning and budgeting process with other deans and in cooperation with managers supervisors faculty and classified staff consistent with college principles and values.
Facilitates grant applications for assigned area manages grants and prepares required reports.

Terms of Employment
This is a fulltime administrative exempt position.The anticipated start date for this position is July 1 2025.The primary work location will be at Pierce College at Fort Steilacoom.Occasional travel to Pierce College campuses an/or other sites may occur. Standard work hours are between 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday however hours will vary with occasional evening and weekend hours required. This positionmayis eligible for 1 2 days per week for telework once established in the position.This position requires regular and consistent attendance.Salary & Benefits
The salary range for this position is$115651.00 to $143089.00 annually;new hires typically start at $120400.00.Our paycheck is just part of the total compensation package. Physical Work Environment
This position is required to work indoors in an open office environment which requires visual concentration on detail dexterity precision and is subject to frequent noise and interruptions. This position operates in a dynamic and fastpaced environment.
