Corporate Engineer MechanicalPosition Overview
Shaw Industries is seeking a Corporate Engineer Mechanical. Under the limited direction of the Engineering Manager this position is primarily responsible and accountable for project development design and with a secondary focus on technical support for manufacturing facilities. Work is often multidisciplined and requires close coordination with manufacturing management other corporate departments and outside agencies. While project assignments may at times overlap into other disciplines such as civil the primary focus of this position is mechanical systems manufacturing processes and piping. This position is responsible for collecting design criteria preparing detailed schedules preparing technical specifications developing engineering designs assembling project estimates creating engineered drawings and utilizing project management tools to ensure projects meet safety quality schedule performance and budget requirements.
Location: This position will be primarily based in Dalton GA with project management assignments and responsibilities potentially requiring work at any Shaw facility location.
Shaw Industries Corporate Engineering (CE) provides engineering support for the corporations manufacturing distribution sales and administrative facilities. Although its primary base is in Dalton GA CE is deployed on projects across the enterprise. The department provides feasibility studies highlevel budgets project development detailed cost estimates engineering design project management consulting and CAD services. CE has specialists to serve the needs of each segment of the business. Staff include mechanical electrical & civil engineers project managers interior designers and CAD designers as well as administrative staff.

Primary Responsibilities:
Project Development and Administration
Develop and execute capital and expensed projects sometimes large and complex with detailed scopes of work detailed schedules and appropriationsgrade budgets.
Solicit detailed stakeholder design criteria and translates same into actionable technical designs plans and scope elements to ensure achievement of project objectives.
Partner with project stakeholders to develop project options and proposals to facilitate decisionmaking by business leaders.
Develop and submit detailed documentation required to solicit project approval through online project administration software tools.
Maintain project files and publish periodic project reports.
Project Management and
Consistently apply technical standards engineering best practices project management processes and project management tools and champion the use of the same with facilitylevel engineering teams.
Track spending and maintain control of project cost performance. Act as the primary point of accountability for adherence to the project budgets.
Manage onsite contractor activities ensuring consistent enforcement of regulatory corporate and plant policies such as safety ethics environmental etc.
Minimize projectrelated disruptions to normal plant activities and coordinate necessary disruptions with plant management in advance.
Perform projectrelated quality control functions inspecting vendorsupplied equipment and construction work to ensure compliance with specifications drawings timeline requirements and other requirements as defined in contract packages.
Provide an active onsite resource for project commissioning startup and optimization.
Technical Expertise
Possess strong knowledge of the design of mechanical systems in an industrial environment including power transmission piping systems valves and general machinery.
Develop and retain process knowledge and related manufacturing expertise necessary to successfully execute projects and job assignments.
Collaborate with facility teams technical teams and other engineers to develop innovative solutions to complex problems and business opportunities.
Provide coaching and support for engineers and other facilitylevel technical resources.
