DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsible for the administrative direction and oversight for all intercollegiate athletics staff programs facilities and activities. The position is responsible for ensuring compliance with all NAIA NCCAA Crossroads League university and athletics regulations. The Director of Athletics is responsible for administering departmental funds and accounts in a fiscally responsible manner and sustaining a culture of sportsmanship professionalism and respect at all levels. The position also collaborates with Admissions on the recruitment and retention of student athletes; with Student Life on behavioral standards of the university including student discipline and discipleship; with other student administrative offices such as Financial Aid and Business Office; and with Marketing on publicity and reporting of athletic events and results. Frequent nights and weekend work and inseason travel required. Reports to the Vice President for Student Development.
Essential Job Functions:
Provide administrative direction and oversight for all athletic programs and activities and supervise the control issuance and maintenance of athletic equipment and facilities
Supervise full and parttime athletic staff including coaches assistant coaches athletic trainer compliance coordinator sports information director office assistant student workers; shared responsibility for hiring disciplining or termination decisions; and full responsibility for mentoring and evaluating coaches and athletic staff.
Meet regularly with the Vice President for Student Development.
Responsible for the training and orientation of all coaches regarding college and department policies procedures and expectations; and ensures that all coaches comply with NAIA NCCAA rules and Crossroads League regulations.
Attend NAIA and NCCAA conventions and Crossroads League conference meetings.
Adhere to and follow all NAIA NCCAA and conference rules regulations and bylaws; and must document adherence to these rules/regulations/bylaws as required by these organizations.
Supervise all recruitment activities working closely with Admissions to ensure compliance with conference and national rules.
Maintain close relationship with Registrar and Faculty Athletic Representative regarding
studentathlete eligibility. Work with faculty to ensure continued academic progress of student athlete.
Prepare and administer the Athletic Department budget including team travel and equipment.
Manage athletic aid regarding assigned tuition discount rates.
Maintain official department files and records regarding eligibility financial aid and medical information.
Monitor and approve team game schedules.
Establish admission fees for athletic contests.
Assist the VP for Institutional Advancement with fundraising activities that support athletics and the college in general.
Attend athletic events as needed or required.
Develop and oversee annual orientation program for student athletes.
Administer the athletic insurance for athletes.
Collaborate with and support the Student Life team in disciplinary cases involving student athletes.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Committed to the mission vision and values of Bethel University.
Dedicated to the academic athletic spiritual and leadership development of all student athletes.
Masters degree required. Three to five years of coaching/administrative accomplishment in the area of athletics/sports management and education. Understanding of NAIA/NCCAA philosophy rules and regulations. Demonstrated leadership vision personnel and management skills including recruiting (of both studentathletes and staff) budgeting planning and fund raising. Ability to communicate with students faculty administrators alumni and the general
community.
