The Religion Ethics and Philosophy department seeks a passionate and energetic teacher to fill a parttime position 34 courses per term) for the fall and winter terms of theacademic year for sabbatical class coverage. Candidates should be interested in being part of a collaborative group of teachers and working with highly motivated high school students in a diverse mostly residential nonreligiouslyaffiliated school. Candidates may also express interest in serving the cocurricular needs of the school (e.g. coaching advising residence life etc.; such activity would be paid separately.
Candidates should be prepared to teach a set of courses in the academic study of religion ethics philosophy and psychology with teaching competencies that align with our current course catalogue.
Additional requirements:
An advanced degree in religion philosophy ethics psychology or related field is required.
Experience teaching in a high school or college level classroom setting for a minimum of 2 years. Equivalent experience may be considered.
A commitment to diversity equity and inclusion and to serving the needs of a diverse community.
Willingness to enforce all school policies and rules governing student behavior.
While individual responsibilities will vary from one faculty position to another the major job duties of all term faculty members include the following:
Teaching: All classes are studentcentered discussions around a Harkness table. In order to meet the intellectual needs of the schools talented and highly motivated students teachers are expected to be dedicated to daily preparation for the best possible classes.
Cultural Competency: Faculty are expected to demonstrate respect for diversity of identities and experiences an orientation toward equity and inclusion and cultural competency in all aspects of Academy life.
