Description of Work

This is a fulltime position 40 hours per week) with State Benefits including health insurance paid vacation paid sick time paid holidays as well as retirement.
This position is located at Wake Correctional Center (Wake CC) located in Raleigh NC Wake County and reports directly to the Assistant Region Director in the Central Region.
Responsible for administering established policies and procedures for the daily operation of a minimum custody correctional facility which includes:
Custody
Programs
Food service
Administration (human resources and fiscal)
- Responsible for the overall planning directing and management of these services as well as overseeing the management of the offender population at Wake CC
- The Warden is responsible for identifying offenders for participation in the Governors Mansion program.
- Wake CC provides offender labor to other State agencies businesses that participate in the work release program and issues community volunteer leave passes to approved offenders.
- Sets goals and priorities for each component within the prison and makes modifications as needed
- May develop internal policies and guidelines
- Directly involved with hiring disciplining coaching and training employees
- Responsible for 101 full time employees as well as contractual employees and up to 414 male offenders.
- This is inclusive of providing coordination and direction to line staff in all areas of the prison
This position is EXEMPT from most provisions of theState Human Resources Act (GS 126.
Note to Current State Employees: The Salary Grade for this position is NC19. To qualify for this position applicants must document in the Description of Work section of their application that they possess ALL of the following were applicable:
- Working experience with offender custody in an adult correctional setting.
- Working experience with program management in an adult correctional setting.
- Documented managerial skills in an adult prison facility.
- Working knowledge of adult facility operations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of adult Prisons Policy and Procedures.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelors degree from an appropriately accredited institution andthree years of supervisory administrative or consultative experience in corrections or related work;
OR
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma andfour years of supervisory experience at or above the Correctional Captain level;
OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
