Pay Range: $16.09$26.29

Summary: The Head Start Teacher assures that program activities include an organized series of experiences designed to meet the individual differences and needs of each child in the program and the specific educational priorities of the local population and the community. This includes planning and leading daily Head Start lessons following Head Start standards. The Head Start Teacher assures that parents will be involved and assisted in ways to foster the learning and development of their children. The Teacher will exercise case management for documentation and communication with parents about the childrens health education and social services. This position supports a team approach to teaching in one classroom with wrap around childcare before and after Head Start hours. Works with and supports the School District Early Childhood Special Education Program to provide collaborative services in the least restrictive environment while providing comprehensive Head Start services.


Minimum Requirements:

Experience: Two years of similar or related experience. Minimum of one 1 year working with young children in a group setting.

Education: Bachelors degree in early childhood education or related field. Willing to acquire a valid CPR and First Aid Certifications within 6 months of hire.

Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or can be of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design teaching and instruction for individuals and groups and the measurement of training effects.
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability personality and interests; learning and motivation.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words rules of composition and grammar.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment policies procedures and strategies to promote effective local and state operations for the protection of people data property and institutions.
  • Knowledge of administrative and office procedures and systems such as word processing managing files and records stenography and transcription designing forms and workplace terminology.

Skills:

  • Speaking Talking to others to convey information effectively.
  • Instructing Teaching others how to do something.
  • Learning Strategies Selecting and using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things.
  • Active Listening Giving full attention to what other people are saying taking time to understand the points being made asking questions as appropriate and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Reading Comprehension Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in workrelated documents.
  • Critical Thinking Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Social Perceptiveness Being aware of others reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
  • Time Management Managing ones own time and the time of others.

  • Ability to work cooperatively within the classroom center and agencies.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a highly motivated team team oriented.

  • Ability to possess professional work ethics manner and appearance.
  • Ability to comply with all confidentiality regulations as required.
  • Ability to operate general office equipment telephone computer and operating systems (Microsoft Office).
  • Ability to be reliable punctual and dependable to meet the needs of the classroom department and Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation.
  • Ability to notice and handle daytoday illnesses and caring instructions with multiage classrooms.
  • Ability to be available to work the assigned schedule of MF 8:30A5:00PM and available as needed to work a flexible schedule to meet the demands of the position.
