Duty Schedule:
Monday Friday; 8:00 am 5:00 pm; 40 hours per week.
Summary/Objective of Position:
The successful applicant must have the background and experience to teach introductory and major human biology courses including anatomy and physiology microbiology cancer biology genetics and cellular and molecular biology in BS in Biology and Biomedical degree programs. The ability to mentor thesis students in an MS in Biology program is also highly recommended. The Ph.D. is required and other professional certifications like ASCP or AMt will be a plus.

- 90 Instruction Research and Scholarship:
- Provide undergraduate and graduate students instruction in but not limited to anatomy and physiology microbiology genetics and cancer biology and cellular and molecular biology in BS in Biology and Biomedical degree programs. Advanced courses in the candidates specialty may also be available.
- 5 Mentoring Advising and Supervision:
- Mentor and serve as an advisor to students train and supervise personnel in conducting research at the undergraduate and graduate levels and serve on the graduate committees of other graduate students. Supervision of technical staff if grants are developed.
- 5 Service:
- Faculty are expected to be collegial members of their units and to perform appropriate service that contributes to the effectiveness of their units departments the College and their professions. Service includes outreach to their greater Din community to better position the college within the community.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
Minimum:
- A masters or Ph.D. degree must be in biology or a similar discipline.
- A minimum of 18 graduate hours in the discipline area is required.
Preferred:
- Ph.D. in biology or related discipline.
- Postdoctoral experience.
- Experience with or interest in working collaboratively across departments as well as working with tribal peoples.
- Record of or potential for collaborative multidisciplinary research especially in research contributing to the Din people.
- Record of successful outreach with stakeholders and extramural funding.
Knowledge:

- Problemsolving and decisionmaking skills.
- Oral fluency in Navajo is highly desirable but not mandatory.
- Navajo/American Indian preference is exercised but not mandatory.
- Bilingual and biliterate Navajo preferred but not mandatory.
- A faculty is expected to have a high degree of proficiency in computer software used to support the administration of higher education.
- Software use includes but is not limited to general office functions such as MS Word Excel Outlook and Internet services.
- In addition a faculty is expected to utilize academicspecific programs for course delivery (facetoface synchronous and asynchronous using Canvas) and course maintenance (such as grade submissions posting of syllabus etc)
Abilities:
- A faculty is expected to have a high degree of proficiency in computer software used to support the administration of higher education.
- Software use includes but is not limited to general office functions such as MS Word Excel Outlook and Internet services.
- In addition a faculty is expected to utilize academicspecific programs for course delivery (facetoface synchronous and asynchronous using Canvas) and course maintenance (such as grade submissions posting of syllabus modules course itinerary etc.
Physical Requirements Work Environment & Travel:
- 8:00 am 5:00 pm; MondayFriday weekends remote potential.
- Instruction and research are generally indoors but can include outdoor work in adverse weather conditions.
- Weekends and/or evenings may be necessary.
- Travel to other campuses research sites or other locations for outreach events is expected.
Other Requirement(s):
- This position requires driving a college GSA vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the college; therefore the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle training and history check possess and maintain a current valid drivers license in their state of residence be determined to be position qualified and selfreport convictions as per College Policy.
