Job Description
As aLead Machine Learning Engineer youll be leading technical efforts to research develop and applying cuttingedge machine learning systems to build innovative technologies services and products that solve the companys hardest problems and accelerate Best Buys core growth. In this role you will combine your leadership skills with strong software engineering expertise and deep knowledge of ML and AI algorithms to lead technical efforts to architect develop and operationalize models algorithms and production quality codebases that form the core engines that unleash the next generation of customer experiences and transform the way Best Buy operates daytoday.
This role is hybrid which means you will work some days on site at a Best Buy location and some days virtually at home or another nonBest Buy location. The specific work arrangements vary by role and team. The recruiter or hiring manager will provide more details during the hiring process.
For this role you must be located within a drivable distance to our office in Richfield Minnesota Atlanta Georgia or Seattle Washington.

What youll do
- Leading the design and development of ML solutions as services
- Mentoring and coaching junior ML Engineers leveraging stateoftheart machine learning techniques
- Partner with global crossfunctional teams including AI data platforms products analytics business and compliance
- Applying software engineering skills to lead development and deployment of solutions that can scale to millions of requests per second with millisecond latency
- Work through complex technical and business problems in high pressure scenarios connecting the larger enterprise goals to teams tactical deliverables
Basic qualifications
- Bachelors degree in a highly quantitative field (computer science engineering physics math operations research or related) or equivalent relevant professional experience
- 6 years of experience building and operationalizing ML/AI products
- 3 years of MLOps or AIOps experience operationalizing realtime ML/AI models with ultralow latency and high throughput as resilient scalable cloud native services
- 3 years of experience leading end to end design reviews code reviews and deployment patterns for critical AI applications in one or more of Gen AI supervised learning unsupervised learning and reinforcement learning domains
- 3 years of experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) building and maintaining ML/AI solutions with production grade pipelines
- Expert level understanding of Python ecosystem and common AI/ML frameworks (LangChain TensorFlow PyTorch scikitlearn SeldonCore)
- Expert level coding expertise in Python and SQL
- Expert level knowledge of MLOps/AIOps concepts and CI/CD pipelines
Preferred qualifications
- Masters degree or PhD. in a highly quantitative field (computer science engineering physics math operations research or related) or equivalent relevant professional experience
- Multicloud and multiregion integration experience
- Experience building production grade ML models using one or more Deep Learning frameworks like TensorFlow PyTorch JAX or ONN
- Experience with one or more CI/CD MLOps DataOps and Orchestration platforms like KubeFlow Prefect Apache Airflow MLFlow or Argo for endtoend model building training serving and monitoring
- Opensource contributions or robust GitHub portfolio
