Job Description

The Emerald Necklace Conservancy is a growing nonprofit in Boston MA with a mission to restore and improve the Emerald Necklace for all. The Conservancy is dedicated to stewarding the 1100 acre linear park system in Boston and Brookline connecting over 15 diverse neighborhoods. Our vision: A thriving Emerald Necklace where people and parks care for each other made possible through thoughtful parks care peopledriven programming and inclusive policy work.


Job Title: Field Trip Teacher

Department: Education

Reports to: Kent Jackson Director of Education

Position Status: Temporary (April 2025June 2025 PartTime NonExempt

Compensation: $20 per hour

Work Schedule: Field Trip Days: Tuesday Wednesday and Friday 9:15am12:15pm

Are you interested in connecting the curiosity of the Greater Boston youth to the overwhelming beauty of nature all while educating them on scientific concepts Would you like to facilitate outdoor activities in an inspiring interactive handson/mindson and culturally responsive way The Emerald Necklace Conservancy is hiring capable enthusiastic educators to lead environmental education activities for Boston youth in the Emerald Necklace Parks.


About the position:


The Field Trip Teacher will lead environmental field trips for Boston Public School classrooms in the Emerald Necklace parks. Canopy Classroom is a placebased environmental education program consistent with Boston Public Schools science curriculum standards to connect Boston youth to the natural world. Our goal is to guide students to become more environmentally conscious by highlighting the realworld applications of science and its relevance to their daily lives. Field Trips include fun interactive nature connection activities in the Emerald Necklace parks. We offer fall and spring field trips designed for 3rd and 4th grade classes approximately 2 hours in length. The position requires the ability to lift 1020 pounds. Canopy Classroom is free to Boston Public Schools and includes transportation to and from the parks.


Responsibilities:

  • Work with Education staff at the Conservancy to prepare and facilitate interactive nature connection/environmental education activities in Emerald Necklace parks
  • Lead groups of 1215 participants in handson outdoor naturebased learning experiences in Emerald Necklace Parks
  • Monitor program participants in all types of outdoor environments and ensure the safety and comfort of all participants
  • Maintain a professional work environment which includes equipment cleanup and storage of program gear and materials
  • Provide basic first aid as needed

Qualifications:

  • 1 years of experience in facilitating outdoor nature connection and environmental education activities for youth
  • BA or BS in environmental education environmental studies biology earth science or related experience preferred
  • Ability to teach youth in an outdoor environment
  • Experience in customer service or childcare and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Interest in natural history nature connection environmental education and science education
  • Strong organizational time management oral and written communication skills
  • Skills and ability to work with diverse groups exercise cultural humility and implement best practices in inclusion
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude while working on a team
  • Reliable transportation to transport teaching materials to and from activity locations
  • Proficiency in standard business software such as Microsoft Office
  • Must successfully pass background checks including a Criminal Offender Record information (CORI) and Sex offender registry information (SORI)
  • Fluency in English/Spanish/other languages is desirable
  • Preference given to candidates from the Boston community

Certifications/Requirements

  • Current First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Employees must successfully complete a CORI and SORI Background Check.
