Job Description

General Summary

JeffersonMadison Regional Libraryis seeking candidates to be considered for fulltime and parttimeMakerspace Lab Support Staff positions for the Central Librarywho are highly motivated and who support JMRLs Mission Statement to foster personal growth and lifelong learning for all by connecting people with ideas information and each other.

The preferred starting salary for this position is $15.00 hourly. Starting offer is based on applicable education experience and internal equity. The fulltime nonexempt position provides excellent benefits including 13 paid holidays plus paid vacation and sick leave health insurance options with employer contribution employerpaid life insurance Citys retirement options gym membership reimbursement and continuing education/training opportunities. The parttime nonexempt position provides prorated benefits.

This position performs responsible clerical work in the JeffersonMadison Regional Library Central Librarys Computer Lab under the general supervision of the Supervisory Technology Services Librarian.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
Job Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in use of various computer platforms andsoftware internetand basic search skills.
  • Knowledge of Internet and use of basic searching skills.
  • Knowledge of hardware and software troubleshooting with inhouse devices.
  • Knowledge of library policies and procedures.
Reading:
  • Intermediate: Ability to read and understand written materials such as newspapers magazines journals multistep instruction manuals and reference materials.
Writing:
  • Basic: Ability to write simple letters paragraphs and sentences containing subject verb and object and/or series of numbers names and addresses.
Communication Skills:
  • Basic: Provide standard information to and interacts with others outside direct reporting relationships on procedures or general policies. Interaction requires recognizing different points of view to ensure understanding and appropriate response. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with coworkers and customers. Requires good telephone etiquette.
Independence and DecisionMaking:
  • Requires General Direction: Normally performs the job by following general instructions or established standard operating procedures and/or policies. There is some discretion when making decisions among a few easily identifiable choices of the appropriate procedure or policy to apply to duties. Performance is reviewed frequently.
Technical Skills:
  • Skilled: Comprehensive practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decisionmaking abilities appropriate to the assigned and apparent job responsibilities. Intermediate skill in Microsoft Office applications and/or departmental software.

Physical Demands:

  • Work is performed in office environment where there may be exposure to computer screen for extended periods of time monitor glare and dust.
