  • Salary HEW 8 $112068 $Superannuation

About You
The Senior Counsellor Intake is a key clinical role within the Student Wellbeing portfolio ensuring a singleentry point for students to receive necessary support. This role provides accessible services tailored to the diverse needs of students including international under 18 CALD and LGBTQI.

Operating with high independence the Senior Counsellor Intake conducts expert mental health assessments risk management and safety planning and coordinates ongoing care. They handle serious mental health issues sometimes involving external teams like CATT and offer complex case management support.

This role offers critical guidance on student mental health across the university contributing to the broader team by assessing and supporting student needs within professional and institutional policies. It aims to enhance student experience and potential through assessments brief interventions and consultations with staff on wellbeing and mental health issues and serves as a contact for external enquiries about atrisk students and critical incidents.

To be successful in this position youll have:

Proven ability to work with highrisk clients addressing complex mental health issues with sensitivity and judgment.

Highlevel competence in traumainformed culturally appropriate assessments and interventions for diverse individuals.

Skilled in providing consultation and support to stakeholders while balancing safety and confidentiality.

Empathy and understanding of psychosocial issues faced by university students.

Promote diversity inclusion cultural competence and reconciliation while understanding and addressing diverse student concerns.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborative work on student mental health issues.

Strong service skills commitment to quality assurance continuous improvement and effective technology use.

Adaptable to change embracing new practices and staying updated with professional and educational advancements.

A strong understanding of triage processes and risk assessment in a tertiary education setting is advantageous.

Please Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children and National Police Check.
