Westfield Public Schools seeks qualified applicants for the following district position. JOB GOAL: A bilingual paraprofessional under general supervision provides assistance to an ESL and/or Sheltered English Immersion Content Teachers to perform a variety of tasks relating to the physical and instructional needs of new language learning pupils in the English Learner Program to meet the program goals. RESPONSIBILITIES:Implements instructional programs and lesson plans for the purpose of assisting the ESL and classroom teacher in improving students academic with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced by the individual or small group work according to students levels of language acquisition and cognitive a supportive relationship with and work successfully with staff and all studentsProvide clarification in native language when requested by classroom support to acclimate newly arrived students to their schools routinesHave basic computer skills including experience using Google Classroom and various translation programsWork in assigned school(s) across the district based on student language needs as identified by the English Learner Program SupervisorServe as a family liaison and communicate relevant information between the school and familiesAdvocate for family needs and help connect to community resourcesAttend afterschool events such as Open Houses ELPAC meetings Parent/Teacher Conferences etc. and provide oral translations for familiesAssist in communication between student and teacher or administrator when in inservice training other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee. REPORTS TO: English Learner Program Supervisor and Director of Assessment and AccountabilityThe terms of employment and salary schedule will be commensurate with the Westfield Public Schools Unit D contract. Performance in this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Westfield School Committee policy on evaluation.
