Mackenzie Healths two hospitals Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital and Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital each have a fullservice emergency department core services and specialized services to provide our patients with the care they need. A new Inpatient Mental Health Program opened last spring at Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital and we continue providing the services available to the community at the Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital. Our communitybased locations and services continue to provide additional support to the Western York Region.

Position Overview

Mackenzie Health is seeking a psychiatrist fulltime for inpatient and outpatient. The physician will work in consultation with the Chief of Psychiatry as well as the other physicians within the department. The physician may need to provide ECT services as part of inpatient care. There is an oncall requirement as determined by the needs of the department. The physician is expected to provide coverage at both sites. The physician is accountable to the Chief of Psychiatry as well as the program leaders for clinical and operational management within the Psychiatry Program.

Responsibility and Accountability

The physician must demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Assess patients to diagnose the nature and extent of mental health disorders.
  • Manage patients through the continuum of hospital care.
  • Order treatments tests and consults with specialty and primary care physicians where necessary.
  • Prescribe direct and administer medications to treat various mental health and behavioural disorders.
  • Provide oncall services.
  • Flexibility to cover other services as needed.
  • Provide consultation on admitted patients as required.
  • Prepare and submit case reports and summaries for Ministry of Health reporting criteria as required.

Education Certification Licenses

  • Candidate must possess a Medical Degree (MD) and Fellowship in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) in Psychiatry.
  • Registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario is required.
  • Preferred candidates would possess 3 to 5 years experience.
