The Quality Improvement Program at University of Iowa Health Care has an opening for a full time Registry Engineer. This position is responsible for abstracting reliable clinical data from the electronic medical record and submitting the data to the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) Bariatrics registry and the Transcatheter Aortic Valve (TAVR) and Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion (LAAO) registries. Participation in national clinical registries is required by accrediting agencies and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and provides UI Health Care with accurate information (nonadministrative data) to ensure quality and safe care for adult and pediatric populations.
Registry Engineers are also responsible for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to identify opportunities for improvement and develop action plans for process improvement to improve patient outcomes through benchmarking with other hospitals.

- Works collaboratively with the Chief Quality Officer (CQO) and Director in the Quality Improvement Program (QuIP) to operationalize the vision and the work of the program for the hospital.

General supervision is received from the Director and the CQO in the Quality Improvement Program and the Lead Engineer for External Reporting and Registries.
Characteristic Knowledge/Skills Duties and Responsibilities:
- Data collection for select patient populations and/or publicly reported metrics through the application of national registries requirements and/or publicly reported metric specifications.
- Establishes reliable and efficient processes for the collection of data components from the electronic medical record.
- Identifies performance improvement opportunities based on registry and/or publicly reported metric information.
- Applies performance improvement principles to improve patient outcomes.
- Consults with senior QuIP staff nurses physicians and other UI Health Care staff members to evaluate and improve patient outcomes.
- Maintain knowledge on the metric specifications and the evidencebased standards that are incorporated into the metrics and collaborates with clinicians to integrate recommendations into practice.
- Accurately tracks compliance variances and reports results to clinicians on a real time basis.
- Serves as an educational resource on registry and/or publicly reported metric requirements data elements and reporting options. May assist in developing educational material and delivering presentations related to registry information.
- Interacts with registry website and maintains familiarity with upcoming changes to registry or data collection requirements.
- Responsible for utilizing software applications available at the site to ensure accurate and timely entry and transmission of data to the registry. Responsible for reviewing regular site accrual reports on the websites and responding to accrual report alerts.
- Contacts patients and/or families via telephone and/or written communications postprocedure to capture additional information for registries while ensuring HIPAA compliance.
- Establishes effective working relationships with members of the hospital community especially staff clinical departments Nursing Health Information Management and Health Care Information Systems.
- Actively participates in unit departmental and/or intradepartmental committees.
- Performs other projects or responsibilities as assigned by the Director of the Quality Improvement Program.

- Attend Quality and Safety Oversight Subcommittee (QSOS) meetings one time per year to present UIHC annual performance in the registry and identified opportunities for improvement. Previous year and current year improvement projects will be presented.

Work schedule: Some flexibility between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Friday
Location: This position is located at the University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center 200 Hawkins Drive Iowa City IA. This position is eligible to participate in partial remote work after the initial training and onboarding has been completed. Remote work must be performed at a location within the state of Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy work arrangements will be reviewed annually and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and the employee travel policy when working at a remote location.

- A BSN or a bachelors degree in an appropriate healthcarerelated field and 13 years recent clinical experience providing care to adult or pediatric patient populations or an equivalent combination of related education and clinical experience.
