Duties and Responsibilities

- Receive incoming evidence from either temporary lockers or Investigators. Inspect for proper packaging and correct number of items per listing. Send email for corrections where needed
- Lawfully dispose of evidence and found property in accordance with established laws.
- Prepare destruction orders certified letters and other paperwork for disposals.
- Meet with magistrates
- Maintain paperwork for all disposed items.
- Prepare documents needed for the disposition of evidence/property.
- Make appointments as necessary for release of evidence
- Make supplemental reports pertaining to evidence disposals lab submissions and lab reports.
- Scan documents into the records management system.
- Check evidence in/out for officers and courts. Deliver evidence to courts when needed.
- Transport evidence to/from state labs. Prepare lab submission forms or confirm they are correct.
- Monitor Trackit notification system for SANE kits. Pick up SANE kits from area hospital deliver to state labs for processing.
- Make court appearances pertaining to the care and custody of evidence.
- Stock supplies for Investigators and Patrol
- Establish proper storage areas for evidence
- Make copies of audio video and photo evidence for courts and outside agencies. Maintain digital evidence folder on computer.
- Return property/evidence to the rightful owners or via mail.
- Assist with open records requests.
- Oversee inventory and property management.
- Manage the budget within the unit. Get approval from supervisors for large purchases.
- Make recommendations pertaining to the budget.
- Utilize/Manage evidence management system and make changes when needed. Add/Delete new officers to the system.
- Manage access to multiPurpose building to only employees with access needed.
- Greet the public pertaining to release evidence both in person and on the phone.
- Assist at crime sense when needed. Assist in collecting and processing of evidence found. Crime scene unit will be made available for call outs.
- Monitor county email account for requests.
- Meet with Courts and Transportation deputies for evidence from court submissions. Store in multiPurpose building.

- A working knowledge of police operations
- Ability to operate small office equipment
- Ability to operate computer for data entry word processing and accounting purposes
- Ability to operate computer programs and applications
- Ability to operate and repair small/light equipment such as power tools
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and be licensed in the state of Texas
- Ability to read signs labels directions reports manuals state and federal laws and other legal documents.
- Skills using basic math required to handle money measure when required compose graphs and charts.
- Ability to record information prioritize analyze data and make decisions
- Maintain security and adhere to rules of evidence and proper police procedures.
- Ability to manage time well
- Maintain a good working relationship with coworkers.
- Ability to effectively communicate and deal with the public coworkers various law enforcement and criminal justice agencies both state and federal in a diplomatic and professional manner.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires High school diploma or GED; preferred TEEX Property and Evidence Certification and TAPEIT Property and Evidence Certification.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to work outside inside in rain snow sleet excessive heat
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds

Special Certifications and Licenses:
- Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers license with an acceptable driving history.
