Job Description

JOB GOAL:

To provide supplemental literacy and dyslexia intervention related instruction that will enable students to efficiently master the reading and writing skills appropriate to age grade level and individual capacity.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This position is Nine and onefourth 9.25 month contract 190 days) plus a benefits package.NOTE:Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based on experience and LRSDs salary placement guidelines.FLSA: EXEMPT.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid Arkansas teaching certificate in Elementary Education P4 or K6 Special Education P4 or 412 Reading English or English Language Arts 712 or Early Childhood Education
  2. Masters degree in education curriculum and instruction reading preferred.
  3. Experience in teaching reading/literacy instruction and/or interventions preferred.
  4. Preference will be given to candidates with recent successful experience in similar roles.
  5. Ability and willingness to utilize current reading programs with fidelity
  6. Must have completed or be willing to complete training in reading intervention programs
  7. Completion of Science of Reading phase I preferred.

Such alternatives and additions to the above qualifications may be deemed appropriate by the Superintendent. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position.

  1. Administer literacy and dyslexia assessments identified by the Literacy Department to identify those students in need of services and document progress throughout the year.
  2. Teach daily supplemental instruction to groups of students utilizing the established instructional framework with fidelity.
  3. Maintain instructional and assessment records for each student including lesson plans progress reports records of oral reading attendance and writing development.
  4. Collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure seamless instructional support determine when students reach gradelevel expectations and ensure students apply learned skills in the classroom.
  5. Monitor progress of children who exit supplemental instruction/intervention. Conduct endofyear assessments on all students served to document growth and continued progress.
  6. When possible and not in lieu of serving students participate and facilitate schoolbased literacy team meetings to serve as a resource for best practices in literacy and/or dyslexia instruction.
  7. Maintain and submit required data to LRSD Literacy Department on students served.
  8. Participate in creating an environment conducive to the learning and growth of all children.
  9. Regularly communicate student progress to parents.
  10. Support district and state literacy/dyslexia initiatives and schoolcommunity partnerships to advance literacy achievement within the assigned school.
  11. Manage multiple groups of students maintain a consistent instructional schedule (minimize disruptions) and complete tasks within established time frames.
  12. Perform other literacy and/or dyslexia related duties as assigned.

Mental Functions Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit stand walk go up and down stairs operate foot and hand controls use a telephone and write. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty 20 or more pounds. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound near and far vision depth perception handling and working with educational materials and/or objects and providing oral information. Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period and to be physically present and at assigned work with only infrequent unexcused absences during the contract year. Additional technical skills knowledge and abilities may be recommended by immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
