DP Biology Teacher

Founded in 2011 Meridian School is a public tuitionfree charter school open to all students living in Williamson County. As a charter school we are a school of choice offering an inquirybased curriculum and continuum for the International Baccalaureate Program K12.

This course is the first year of a twoyear IB Biology course designed for students in the IB Diploma Program. The core curriculum includes cells the chemistry of life cell respiration and photosynthesis genetics ecology and evolution human health and physiology and plant science.

Students will conduct very extensive and intensive qualitative and quantitative laboratory investigations that will allow them to apply various scientific methods and techniques; develop hypotheses; use variables; collect manipulate graph and interpret data; and develop criticalthinking and problem solving skills. As a result of their endeavors students will realize the importance of laboratory investigation within the world of science.

In addition they will learn and develop the skills necessary to research organize and conduct an independent scientific investigation. This course will teach students the expectations of working in the sciences and also prepare them for the rigors of studying at the college level. Besides inclass assessments students work on IB Internal Assessments and will complete the IB exam in Biology in May of the senior year.

• Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
• Successful experience teaching IB DP Biology is preferred
• Experience in advanced biological laboratory skills and techniques is preferred
• General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
• Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
• Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with students parents teachers and others
• Ability to differentiate instruction for all learners
• Ability to participate in and establish collaborative structures
• Proven ability to develop successful academic programs
• Willingness to collaborate regularly with colleagues in a positive constructive manner

• Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
• Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned
• Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned

• At least two years of teaching experience in specific content area is preferred
• Experience with the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program preferred but not required.

This position will operate in a professional nonsmoking office environment which at times can be busy with moderate noise and many unscheduled interruptions. This role will routinely use standard office equipment such as computers and peripherals phones photocopiers filing cabinets and Promethean boards.
