Job Description

This Elementary Assistant Principal position is split between Longfellow Elementary and Lewis & Clark Elementary schools.

This position would begin effective theschool year.

SUMMARY

Under general supervision provides leadership to maintain a safe orderly and productive learning environment for students staff parents and the community; fosters the success of MPS students by facilitating the development communication implementation and evaluation of a shared vision of learning.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assists in planning organizing evaluating and directing the implementation of all programs and activities in an MPS School; performs primary duties in student relations and school safety issues; performs duties within scope of authority and training; duties may vary according to job assignment.
  • Assists with school administration communications instructional development classroom evaluation effectiveness assessment teacher development disciplinary actions student support programs facilities operations financial management and budgets and community relations.
  • Responds to and resolves issues arising from inside and outside the schools.
  • Provides leadership to students and staff to establish a safe positive learningcentered environment; promotes MPS vision goals purpose cultures and values.
  • Manages educational social and personal development of the students; supervises student relations and assists students to resolve discipline attendance safety learning and relationship issues.
  • Assists with managing staff schedules workload and technical issues; develops recommendations for the definition and achievement of goals and the allocation and utilization of resources
  • Monitors instructional educational support and service programs; evaluates program effectiveness and develops recommendations for improvements and curriculum revisions.
  • Assists with administrative duties including budget expenditures records and facilities management.
  • Monitors and evaluates classes and verifies that the teaching activities meet quality standards; verifies compliance with federal and state regulations North Dakota Department of Public Instruction standards and MPS policies.
  • Supports the relationship between the Minot Public School District and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with clients visitors and District staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of workrelated issues client records and District information; follows compliance rules governing child abuse; performs related duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education Training and Experience Guidelines

Masters Degree in Education or related field; AND five years of teaching experience; OR an equivalent combination of education training and experience.

Knowledge of:
  • MPS organization operations policies and procedures.
  • Federal and state policies rules and regulations governing the conduct and safety of student programs and facilities in an educational environment including the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction and other governing and accrediting agencies.
  • Principles and practices of administrative management including personnel rules cost accounting budgets payroll purchasing planning contracting records management and project management.
  • Techniques and practices for efficient and cost effective management of resources.
  • Legal ethical and professional rules of conduct for public education administrators.
  • Local community resources regional community services programs and regional training programs.
  • Safety rules and regulations occupational hazards and safety precautions in public facilities.


Skill in:

  • Managing and coordinating MPS School operations.
  • Identifying problems and opportunities and developing solutions.
  • Understanding and applying educational standards and procedures federal and state rules and regulations and MPS policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining emotional control in a high stress environment.
  • Using courtesy and respect in interactions with students staff and parents.
  • Using motivational skills to inspire staff facilitate teamwork and support innovation.
  • Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
  • Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks projects and demands.
  • Developing and maintaining a public education learning environment in which positive appropriate behavior is encouraged and discipline problems are minimized.
  • Collaborating as a team member with colleagues staff and community representatives.
  • Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with coworkers public officials and representatives from other regional agencies.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.



LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A valid North Dakota State Drivers License is required. Teacher/Educator certification from North Dakota Department of Public Instruction is required; and specific Principals Credential is required as defined by Article 6719 of the North Dakota Administrative Rules.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a standard office and public school environment.

This position is subject to veterans preference.
