Job Description
The Alexa Communications team is aspiring to make it effortless for Alexa to connect and coordinate with the world by anticipating personalizing and acting on every communication.
Our team is hiring a talented and experienced Sr. Applied Scientist to help build LLMpowered nextgeneration communication features that enable customers to connect with each other (e.g. calling dropins announcements) and also communicate with Alexa to drive actions (e.g. by email texting mobile share). We are seeking an experienced entrepreneurial big thinker for a confidential new initiative within Alexa. You will be joining a team doing innovative work making a direct impact to customers showing measurable success and building with the latest AGI/LLM systems.

Driving applied science (machine learning) projects endtoend from ideation analysis prototyping development metrics and monitoring
Conducting deep analyses on massive user and contextual data sets
Proposing viable modeling ideas to advance optimization or efficiency with supporting argument data or preferably preliminary results
Designing developing and maintaining scalable ML models and LLMs with automated training validation monitoring and reporting
Staying familiar with the field and apply stateoftheart ML techniques to NLP and related optimization problems
Publishing peerreviewed scientific papers in top journals and conferences
And you constantly look for opportunities to
Innovate simplify reduce waste and increase efficiency
Use data to make decisions and validate assumptions
Automate processes otherwise performed by humans
Learn from others and help those around you grow

In 2025 we have the opportunity to build new products and features from the ground up and we are looking for strong leaders who are not afraid of taking bold bets and trying new things to improve the customer experience for Alexa Communications.
Key job responsibilities
As part of a growing team you will be:
Iterating on new features and products to help drive innovation and expansion
Work on crossfunctional and crossdomain opportunities
Tackle challenging projects aimed to accelerate experimentations in Alexa
Build out operating mechanisms and technology to enable novel customer experiences.
Be instrumental in setting the team culture quality bar engineering best practices and norms
Mentor and grow the team around you
Contribute and develop deep expertise in the areas of distributed systems machine learning conversational technologies user interfaces (including voice and natural user interfaces) data storage and data pipelines
3 years of building machine learning models for business application experience
PhD or Masters degree and 6 years of applied research experience
Experience programming in Java C Python or related language
Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning
Experience with modeling tools such as R scikitlearn Spark MLLib MxNet Tensorflow numpy scipy etc.
Experience with large scale distributed systems such as Hadoop Spark etc.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $150400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $260000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on jobrelated knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered equity signon payments and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits.
