Job Description
We are currently seeking a Senior Manager of Product Design (Individual Contributor) to join our Experience Design Card Platforms & Design Team. Card Platforms & Data (CPD) supports the Card Data Models Decisioning and Credit (DMDC) organization. CPD Designers operate at the intersection of the US Card business machine learning and associate experience. In this role you will lead our most strategic initiatives and become a SME in complex US Card data products and model infrastructure in order to define better experiences for Product Owners Business Analysts Data Scientists and Machine Learning Engineers. Ultimately they work to democratize the use of Card Data in DMDC to help associates make core business decisions within a space brand new to working with Designers.

Role Expectations
As a Senior Manager of Design youll combine your craft expertise and leadership skills with an understanding of our customers and the business to cocreate innovative solutions to complex problems drive product strategy and contribute to a thriving team culture of high performing designers.
Here are some of the expected competencies for this role:
- Product Design Expertise: Leverage established product design expertise and skills across interaction visual and service design to elevate the quality and maturity of the design practice at Capital One; in collaboration with crossfunctional partners help to oversee and optimize the use of appropriate tools platforms frameworks and design systems and work with teams to develop artifacts that may include vision stories journey maps blueprints highfidelity designs and prototypes
- Leadership: Advance the craft of design at Capital One by leading mentoring and consulting with others providing expertise that matures the design discipline builds our culture and enables work to move forward efficiently
- HumanCentered: Advocate for humancentered methodologies that align customer needs and business goals by applying data research insights design expertise and a mature perspective to problemsolving across the portfolio
- BusinessFocused: Demonstrate strong knowledge of products processes customers competitors and broader market trends and use that knowledge to shape how Design should engage (i.e. actively managing the portfolio pivoting redirecting and broadening and narrowing scope as needed)
- ProblemSolving: Demonstrate an expertise in tech and data capabilities and emerging technologies and use this knowledge to form innovative design strategies and help your crossfunctional team move faster and navigate limitations in service of bold technological solutions
- Collaboration: Engage partner expertise and perspectives from across the organization to support workstream projects and identify the people needed to move the work forward embracing compromise to solve strategic challenges and deliver the best results
- Communication: Present work across levels and job functions modeling a strategic humancentered approach that integrates design frameworks data and research insights to make the complex accessible influence stakeholders and achieve desired results
The ideal candidate has a strong portfolio demonstrating your leadership process results and impact.
Basic Qualifications
At least 8 years of experience in product design role
At least 8 years of experience in design and prototyping tools such as Figma
Preferred Qualifications
5 years leading design projects
Experience working in a highly technical space in data products and ML infrastructure
Experience working with and contributing new components and patterns to a design system to an established design system
Experience collaborating with product tech and business leaders new to Design
Experience working in ambiguous heavily regulated and data heavy problem spaces
Previous experience in design strategy or service design
Previous experience with 01 product development

The minimum and maximum fulltime annual salaries for this role are listed below by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for parttime roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean VA: $193000 $220300 for Sr. Manager DesignCandidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidates offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
