Job Description

FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU) a state and landgrant institution of the University System of Georgia invites applications for the position of Auxiliary Coordinator for Broadband Education & Resources.

Fort Valley State University the only 1890 landgrant university in Georgia is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County the original site of the states peach industry. Its 1365acre 5.52 km2 campus is Georgias secondlargest public university in area.

JOB SUMMARY

The Auxiliary Coordinator for Broadband Education and Resources supports initiatives that aim to enhance broadband access and digital literacy within the community. This position focuses on providing education resources and support to individuals schools and organizations to bridge the digital divide and increase broadband adoption and usage. It is a limitedterm grantfunded position from April 1 2025 to February 28 2026.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Program Development and Coordination
    • Develop and implement educational programs and workshops to improve broadband literacy.
    • Coordinate outreach efforts to increase awareness of broadband availability and the benefits of internet access.
    • Partner with local governments schools libraries and community organizations to facilitate broadband education initiatives.
  • Community Engagement
    • Act as a liaison between community members and broadband service providers to address access and affordability issues.
    • Offer guidance on digital tools resources and platforms.
    • Provide training sessions to help individuals and businesses understand how to use broadband services effectively.
  • Resource Management:
    • Ensure the availability of educational materials tools and resources for digital literacy programs.
    • Maintain uptodate information on available broadband services pricing and government initiatives aimed at supporting broadband adoption.
  • Outreach and Advocacy:
    • Promote awareness of broadband access programs.
    • Advocate for policies and initiatives that improve broadband infrastructure and access for all residents.
  • Data Collection and Reporting:
    • Collect feedback from program participants to assess the impact of educational programs and resources.
    • Prepare reports on broadband education efforts providing data on participation challenges and success stories.
  • Training and Support:
    • Train community leaders educators and volunteers to assist in delivering broadband education programs.
    • Provide oneonone or group support for individuals needing assistance with broadbandrelated issues.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Knowledge of broadband technologies digital literacy and the digital divide.
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to engage with diverse populations.
  • Experience in community outreach education or program coordination.
  • Ability to use various digital tools and platforms to support broadband education.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Problemsolving abilities and a proactive approach to overcoming broadband access and education challenges.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
  • May be required to kneel squat or stand for extended periods to capture images.
  • Must be able to travel including overnight travel at times
  • Must be able to take photos in an outdoor environment at times.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in education Communications Information Technology or related field (or equivalent work experience).
