Job Duties

We are filling positions for the Prince George and McKenney Area Headquarters. Additional positions may be filled from this recruitment package within 90 days from the closing date.
We are seeking experienced individuals to operate power tools and heavy equipment (chain saws trimming and chipping machines dump truck loader backhoe motor grader tractor w/ attachments) and perform manual labor. As an Operator Maintenance you will:
respond to emergency roadway and severe weather events to prepare and operate equipment for snow and ice removal and other types of hazardous road conditions
attend work zone training prepare work zones and perform traffic control
demonstrate proper work site protection techniques: identify workplace safety hazards make suggestions for improvement wear proper personal protection equipment maintain current knowledge of safety rules regulations laws and use equipment properly and safely
participate as a working team member performing manual labor including clearing drainage cutting brush pothole patching and fulfilling tasks required to complete road maintenance projects
complete pretrip inspections perform preventive maintenance and operate power tools and light to heavy equipment.
VDOT is an emergency response agency and this position is the core of this requirement therefore you will work outside of normal work hours during emergency operations.
In addition to a comprehensive compensation and benefits package a $3000 signon bonus is available for qualified candidateswho have a valid CDL.A 12month tenure agreement is required.

Minimum Qualifications
Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
Skill in the operation and maintenance of hand and power tools
Safety shoes required.
Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter. Must comply with DOT and VDOT policies and standards when operating CDL equipment.
Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions.
Skill in the operation and maintenance of light medium and heavy duty equipment used for highway maintenance and repair.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Knowledge of highway maintenance equipment materials methods and procedures.
Additional Considerations
experience in emergency operations to include snow removal storms and accident response and cleanup
experience performing preventive maintenance and minor equipment repairs
A combination of training experience or education in maintenance vehicle operations or related field desired.
Experience in roadway maintenance and construction
Valid CDL or CLP Permit.
