BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT
Several factors (climate change pandemics conflicts etc. are exacerbating human suffering
damaging livelihoods ecosystems and resources availability. Humanitarian actors are responsible to
embed sustainability in their interventions both in terms of reducing possible collateral damages (e.g.
COs emissions damage to ecosystems increase of social tensions) and increasing the resilience of
the supply systems to such stressing factors to maintain the ability to deliver at the right time and
place. Enhancing ESG Sustainability of WFP supply chain to climate and other stressors is essential to
ensure the organization is accountable to communities and people it serves. WFP supply chain
should be able to savings lives today without negatively impacting lives tomorrow making strategic
and informed decisions.
Under the supervision of the Supply Chain Officer the incumbent will conduct analyse and research
work related to enhancing sustainability and resilience of supply chain focus on supporting the
ongoing carbon accounting project. The output of the assignment will feed into design decisions for
the ECODASH solutions and more broadly inform the WFP Supply Chain strategy for 2030 and
beyond.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide support to supply chain sustainability activities for the calculation of Supply Chain carbon
emissions through ECODASH.
Research evaluate existing supplierspecific emission factors and public carbon emissions
reporting from WFPs top suppliers
Support ongoing work to develop a data quality and uncertainty framework for WFP carbon
accounting calculations.
Support usertesting piloting and rollout preparations for ECODASH including contributing to
preparing communications and training materials.
Support to other SSC workstreams as required.
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE ASSIGNMENT
Data set of currently publicly available supplierspecific emission factors and reported emissions
data from WFPs top food suppliers.
Usertest reports for ECODASH identifying necessary bugs fixes or updates.
ECODASH rollout communications and training materials.
Evaluation framework for the quantitative uncertainty of carbon emission factors inline with GHG protocol
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Education: Bachelors degree (completed or in progress) in engineering science or other relevant fields from a recognized university is
required.
Experience: The Volunteer should have experience in data analysis and visualization using the Microsoft Office suite.
Knowledge & Skills: Strong organizational analytical and communication skills.
Languages: Very strong proficiency in English (level B2 or equivalent). Fluency in other WFP official languages is a plus.
