Nursing Simulation Educator
The Michigan State University (MSU) College of Nursing (CON) is seeking applications for a Nursing Simulation Educator for our East Lansing campus. This position will be assigned to the East Lansing campus location with the ability to back up the other campus location Detroit as needed. This position will assume responsibility for educational activities associated with the operation of the nursing simulation laboratory for students enrolled in graduate and/or undergraduate nursing programs. The East Lansing campus Nurse Simulation Educator will report to the Granger Simulation Lab Manager. Business hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. 5 p.m. with occasional nights and weekends dependent on enrollment growth and/or curriculum modification as well as scheduling needs. Occasional travel to and from the Nursing Detroit and/or East Lansing locations may also be required. Additional teaching workload may be considered dependent upon candidate interest and skillset.
Position responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Participates in the planning and evaluation of simulationbased education and skill development activities ensuring alignment with diversity equity and inclusive excellence. Trains clinical faculty on simulations and tasks and their delivery and assessments of competency to promote consistency and understanding related to social determinants of health and health equity. Develops simulation and skillrelated content that is aligned with the various program curricula emphasizing health equity. Develops and updates a map of all simulation and task training by course and across programs such that they increase in complexity and call for increased critical thinking/decision making. Facilitates simulation activities including communication with stakeholders training of others involved with activities (i.e. standardized patients and sim operator etc. Delivers highquality and impactful prebriefing activities simulation and debriefing with students. Provides direct demonstration practice and assessment of nursing skills ensuring that students understand how bias inequality and systemic disparities affect patient care and outcomes. Maintains current knowledge within the field of healthcare simulation and integrates methodologies (human patient simulators standardized patients VR/AR etc. into learning activities that reflect best practices with diverse populations. Participates in the envisioning discussion development and implementation of realistic clinical scenarios and events that integrate diversity equity and inclusion (DEI) while consulting with appropriate content experts or educational faculty partners Masterfully adapts predeveloped simulation scenarios for needed competency achievement that include an understanding of social determinants of health and health disparities (formative and summative) Provides standardized patient training Collaborates with other Nurse Simulation Educators in the college regarding the facilitation of clinical simulation and skill learning experiences Provides input regarding supply and equipment orders each semester and as needed Support community outreach events (i.e. GATE Grandparents University Science Festival Future Docs etc. and Office of Student Affairs events by offering demonstrations conducting tours etc. Provide classroom education and support as necessary. Requires occasional travel to the Detroit and/or East Lansing campuses.

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a fouryear college degree program in Educational Theory and Methodology and/or a specialization in the designated area of expertise; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in planning and overseeing seminars and conferences including public relations organizing and disseminating training materials and information both written and webbased; budget and records maintenance and computer support; experience in supervision database spreadsheet word processing desktop publishing knowledge of HTML programming and web site development and management; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Masters degree in Nursing
Knowledge of the INACSL standards for simulation best practices
Knowledge of educational theory principles and methods of adult education
Experience with instructional technologies such as highfidelity simulators and lowfidelity manikins
Working knowledge of Quality Assurance and/or Quality Improvement processes
Evidence of scholarly engagement
Experience with distance education
Experience with healthcare simulation
Experience working with diverse populations of learners
