Job Description
The Assistant Teacher is required to implement Child Center curriculum in accordance with the philosophy and policies of the Great Basin College Child & Family Center NAEYC QRIS and NV Pyramid Model Partnership. The position will also require seeking and utilizing resources to enhance center curriculum and daily lesson plans. The Assistant Teacher will supervise between four and six child center Teacher Assistants when the Lead Teacher is absent. The position is located in Elko Nevada. The position reports to the Great Basin College Child & Family Center Lead Teacher and Director. This is an Administrative Faculty 12 month contract.
Qualifications:
Enrollment in an Early Childhood program and twelve completed Early Childhood credits;
One year of Early Childhood Education classroom experience at a licensed center;
Evidence of strong written and oral communication skills;
Demonstrated organizational analytical and problem solving skills;
Demonstrated ability to respond and make decisions in an ever changing environment;
Knowledge of NAEYC Nevada Silver State Stars QRIS ECERS/ITERS and NV Pyramid Model Partnership.
Applicants must be physically able to perform duties including frequent lifting up to 50 pounds bending reaching above shoulder level climbing stairs pulling typing prolonged standing or sitting
Responsibilities:
Assist the Lead Teacher in instructing a preschool class of 2 to 4yearold children;
Participate in caring for the childrens wellbeing and safety;
Implement lesson plans which stimulate the development of age appropriate cognitive and social skills which include communication emergent reading writing math science social studies creative art fine and gross motor development;
Implement and teach the PreKindergarten Standards through appropriate activities in the classroom;
Setup and maintain an ageappropriate centerbased learning environment which meets the requirements of NAEYC Accreditation as well as the TACSEI TPOT and ECCERS assessments.
Prepare and send home Homework on Wheels with each child once a month.
Work a minimum of 40 hours per week under the supervision of the Great Basin College Child and Family Center Lead Teacher and Director.
Model attitudes behaviors and techniques which contribute to the overall harmonious operation of the program;
Promote positive public relations with all contacts within and outside of the Child Family Center;
Other duties appropriate to the position as assigned by the Lead Teacher or Director.
Participate in college or center committees as appropriate.
Follow all guidelines as required by the Great Basin College Child and Family Center Staff Handbook and adhere to all licensing standards as set forth by the Nevada Bureau of Services for Child Care. Follow Great Basin College and Nevada System of Higher Education policies and procedures and all applicable local state and federal regulations.
Travel
The position may require driving to other GBC campuses with or without reasonable accommodation as per the Americans with Disabilities Act with possible overnight stays to coordinate students and programs throughout the service area. There must be a commitment to the GBC mission to serve rural Nevada. The successful candidate will participate in several statewide or national meetings each year that require overnight travel.

The budgeted salary range for this position is $28000 $36360
Salary is based on relatable education and experience internal equity and budgets.

Great Basin College is proud to provide a reducedrate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate. Dependents of faculty have unlimited credits but in order to be eligible children must be unmarried and under the age of 24 and must receive at least 50 of their financial support from the employee and/or employees spouse or domestic partner.

Newly hired faculty must assure that their official transcripts are sent by the degree granting institution(s) to Great Basin College Human Resources Office within 30 days from the effective date of employment. Regionally accredited institutions must have awarded academic degrees.
