The EC2 Instance Networking VPC team develops the foundational data plane primitives that powers the Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) for EC2 instances which allows customers to leverage VPC on a wide range of workloads from general purpose to specialized machine learning and latency sensitive applications. As the Software Development Manager on this team the scope of role is to provide leadership and influence roadmaps that define and build core underlying network virtualization primitives that powers AWS products such as Transit Gateways Network Load Balancers and Outpost connectivity. In partnership with EC2 Product Management Principal and Senior SDEs you will be responsible for building and operating highperformance embedded systems written in Rust/C/C to process packets at scale. The role offers opportunities to impact all of our customers including internal ones like AWS EC2 S3 and DynamoDB as well as external customers running on EC2 as we frequently deploy new capabilities and updates. With access to Principal and Senior Principal leaders across AWS there is significant potential for professional growth to help shape the future of cloud computing infrastructure.



Key job responsibilities
Lead architecture design implementation support and evaluation of technologyfocused tools and services.

Provide leadership and innovation in the design and implementation of services to enable new and existing products and services.

Evaluate complex business and technical requirements and communicate inherent risks and solutions to technical and nontechnical business owners.

Act as point of contact for communications dealing with project deliverables setting the expectation managing priorities technologies human factors and management issues.

Establish consistent project management processes standards and guidelines in the of large scale projects/programs

Champion operational excellence for Tier 0 services

Effectively hires develop and manages performance for the team

AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations from foundational services such as Amazons Simple Storage Service (S3 and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2 to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWSs services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization youll support the development and management of Compute Database Storage Internet of Things (Iot) Platform and Productivity Apps services in AWS including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

3 years of engineering team management experience
7 years of working directly within engineering teams experience
3 years of designing or architecting (design patterns reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
8 years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing certification and livesite operations
Experience partnering with product or program management teams
Experience with C/C/Rust programming in embedded systems
Understanding of network virtualization

Experience in recruiting hiring mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills and make them more effective product software engineers
Experience in communicating with users other technical teams and senior leadership to collect requirements describe software product features technical designs and product strategy
Strong systems programming fundamentals
Experience with largescale VPC networking
Deep understanding of network performance engineering
Experience in communicating with users other technical teams and senior leadership

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on jobrelated knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
