    The Superintendent invites qualified and interested individuals to apply for the position of Instructional Coach supporting the work of the Office of Teaching and Learning.


    DEFINITION:

    Newark Public Schools is deeply committed to ensuring that every school has excellent leadership every classroom has the highest quality teacher and every child has access to the resources and supports necessary for success including a robust curriculum. Schools need guidance and resources to prepare students for college by meeting the expectations of the New Jersey State Learning Standards. The Newark Public Schools seeks an Instructional Coach to support the work of the Office of Teaching and Learning by driving curriculum specific initiatives and programs.
    This is an exciting opportunity for someone with expertise in specific curriculum areas and operations to make a lasting impact on Newarks students and families. This position may also include other duties as assigned.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Instructional Coach will support the work of the Office of Teaching and Learning by:
    • Implementing strategic initiatives that align with the districts vision for specific curriculum and instruction.
    • Spending a minimum of 75 of work time in the school classroom providing instructional support to teachers modeling best practices and coteaching lessons.
    • Providing coaching and mentoring to teachers to enhance their instructional practices including providing feedback on lesson plans instructional strategies and classroom management.
    • Designing and delivering professional development opportunities for teachers to enhance their knowledge and skills in instructional design delivery and assessment.
    • Supporting the implementation of curriculum instructional resources and professional development in curriculum specific areas.
    • Assisting in assessing the educational needs of schools and identifying ways the Office of Teaching and Learning can help meet those needs.
    • Facilitating the acquisition of resources for schools related to curriculum specific initiatives.
    • Collaborating with the Assistant Superintendent and Directors for Teaching and Learning and other applicable district offices and departments to develop and implement programs that meet the goals of the Office of Teaching and Learning.
    • Assisting in planning and managing the implementation of the districts summer school programs with focus on specific curriculum areas during the summer season.
    • Perform other duties and tasks assigned by the Assistant Superintendent and/or Director(s) of Teaching and Learning

    • Outstanding critical thinking skills with the ability to analyze data identify trends and develop innovative solutions.
    • Excellent project management and skills with the ability to balance strategic goals with detailed action steps.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • New Jersey Permanent Teacher Certificate in Specific Content/Curriculum area.
    • Three 3 to five 5 years of relevant experience.
    • Masters Degree in Education or a related field preferred.

    REPORTS TO: Director or Assistant Superintendent of the Office of Teaching and Learning

    SALARY EMPLOYMENT PERIOD AND UNION AFFILIATION:
    Salary:$74063 to $129952 (forSY)
    Employment Period: Twelve 12 Months
    Union Affiliation: Newark Teachers Union (NTU)
