Community Advocacy and Event Assistant



Good Neighbours Canada



Good Neighbours is an international humanitarian development nongovernmental organization (NGO) founded in South Korea in 1991. After five years we obtained consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC). Good Neighbours Canada launched in March 2017 in London Ontario and moved to Scarborough GTA in 2022. Under Good Neighbours international governance we focus on fundraising refugee and newcomer settlement programs and global development campaigns to support field projects.



Community Advocacy and Event Support Assistant



The Community Advocacy and Event Support Assistant will play an active role in promoting Good Neighbours Canadas mission by engaging communities in advocacy programs supporting events and fostering relationships with schools and community groups. This role involves direct community engagement event planning and logistical support to ensure effective delivery of programs and campaigns with a focus on equitydeserving populations.



Responsibilities

  • Providing onsite event support at workshops for seniors assisting participants addressing questions and ensuring an inclusive and welcoming environment.
  • Assisting in planning and providing logistical support at a gallery event promoting handcrafted products made by newcomers refugees and racialized seniors helping to ensure a successful and impactful event.
  • Delivering an advocacy program at regional Childrens Water Festivals educating attendees about the impact and advocacy work of Good Neighbours Canada.
  • Developing online communications to increase awareness and participation in advocacy initiatives and community support programs for equityseeking groups using creative and engaging content strategies.
  • Collaborating with partner schools and community centres to encourage their participation in an advocacy activity providing clear communication and responsive support.
  • Other activities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs scheme. Due to funder requirements applicants must be between 1830 years old and hold Canadian citizenship or Permanent Residency.
  • (Working towards) a degree or diploma in community development event planning communications or a related field.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills with a passion for community engagement.
  • Event planning and coordination experience with the ability to manage logistics and provide onsite support effectively.
  • Access to own vehicle is required Good Neighbours Canada will provide coverage of gas costs per kilometre when travel to events is required.
  • Proficiency in creating digital content and managing online campaigns with experience using tools such as Canva or similar platforms being an asset.
  • Organizational and timemanagement skills to coordinate multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • A demonstrated commitment to inclusivity equity and working with diverse populations.
  • Understanding of Good Neighbours Canadas mission and passion for supporting equitydeserving communities.


Duration: 8week internship.
Hours: 35 per week typically Monday Friday 9 am 4 pm. Occasional weekends may be required for events.
Location: Hybrid working arrangement with a minimum of 3 days per week inoffice.
Compensation: $18 per hour.
