Thank you for considering volunteering with Cascadia Health! Please note that most of our volunteer opportunities occur Monday through Friday.
The Conversations on Aging (COA) Volunteer position is responsible for providing support to seniors in the community. This is a social engagement program designed for older adults to help them navigate the changes that come with aging and to support an understanding of relevant cultural and agerelated issues.All volunteers must understand appreciate and respect the diversity and cultural differences within our Cascadia community.
What does a Conversation on Aging (COA) Volunteer do
- Facilitates group conversations for seniors on specific age related topics
- Facilitates Life Story groups offering seniors an opportunity to tell their story
- Facilitates ongoing nontherapeutic support groups for seniors interested in weekly connections
Training & Support:
- COA volunteer orientation
- Monthly education and support meetings
- Consultation and supervision as needed
- Training on various agerelated topics of interest
- Group facilitation skills
Time Commitment:
- Volunteers commit to attending the monthly and quarterly education and support meetings throughout their active volunteering with Cascadia.
- Minimum of oneyear commitment
- Commit to 2.5 10 hours per month for a minimum of one year
Qualifications:
- Our age requirement for this Volunteer role is 55 and older.
- Ability to travel to a variety of locations to facilitate in person groups (when applicable)
- Be selfdirected practice listening skills and provide empathy
- Respect and maintain confidentiality of group participants volunteers partners and donors
- Demonstrate strong leadership organizational and decisionmaking skills
- Treat all participants and team members with respect and dignity.
- Understand appreciate and respect diversity and cultural differences.
- Show sensitivity to the perspectives and perceptions of participants peers staff and referring agencies.
- Comply with the site safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of information as appropriate
