Description:
This full time faculty position requires the ability to teach courses in the PK3 Credential Program (with specialty in Early Childhood Education Early Literacy Early Math) as well as foundational courses for all teacher credential candidates. Teaching can include coteaching online facetoface and hybrid formats. Responsibilities also include clinical supervision of teacher education candidates.
The ECE Program Director has a wide range of responsibilities spanning program leadership administration teaching and event planning. They are responsible for program development maintenance and accreditation as well as admissions recruitment and faculty management. The director also provides student support and advising works on student placements and represents the university in various capacities. In addition to teaching the director plans and implements student orientations and residencies.
The Division of Teacher Education PK3 credential curriculum has recently been written to provide teacher candidates with a bachelors degree and a PK3 teaching credential in a 2 year nontraditional undergraduate program. The entire curriculum reflects a commitment to four values preparing candidates to: 1 meet the needs of all learners in diverse environments; 2 serve English language learners; 3 utilize a robust level of technology within their pedagogy; and 4 learn the profession in the context of Christian values and principles. Programs in APUs School of Education are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) and the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).
Specialization:
- Multiple Subject Credential with specialization in Early Childhood Education Early Literacy Early Math with preference given to those with additional teacher credentials (administrative early childhood education and/or special education).
Program Director Responsibilities:
- The Director of the ECE Program will provide leadership in collaboration with the Chair and Program Directors in the Division of Teacher Education (DTE); take a leadership role in deepening partnerships with identified local PK8 school districts to steward a clear and dynamic vision of implementing program and clinical experiences that address the teacher expectations and changing needs of the PK3 environment; develop and implement PK3 curriculum; review admission files and make admission decisions; take an active role in new student recruitment activities; plan and implement new student orientations; plan and implement inperson residencies; provide support and advising to teacher candidates; recruit and mentor qualified adjuncts; and provide input to state and accreditation reports.
Faculty Responsibilities:
- Teaching undergraduate level educational foundations methodology pedagogy and specialization courses with expertise in the subject area of Early Childhood Education Early Literacy Early Math.
- Clinical supervision of student teachers.
- Providing support for faith integration across the curriculum.
- Ongoing research and/or clinical practice agenda.
- Remaining current in the context of public schooling including California adopted P12 content standards frameworks and accountability systems.
- Active participation in service to the University through committee participation at the program School and/or University level as well as service to the broader professional community.
- Maintains ongoing connection and collaboration with the California Council for Teacher Education (CCTE) and other relevant professional education organizations.
- May be required to work at alternative Regional Campuses or Sites.
Level:
- Open rank dependent upon prior experience.
Qualifications:
- A demonstrated vibrant Christian faith compatible with the mission of Azusa Pacific University (faculty members are required to sign a Statement of Faith available at and to adhere to the policies outlined in the Faculty Handbook).
- Minimum of 12 units of Early Childhood Education coursework.
- Multiple Subject or Early Childhood Education teaching credential from any US state is required.
- PhD or EdD in education or a related field. A practitioner with 15 years related PK12 experience but without a doctorate can be considered.
- Successful experience in use of online technologies for student assessment and teaching with preference for prior experience in online or hybrid environments.
- Demonstrated commitment to effective professional practices in teaching and learning and professional and scholarly activity and service (e.g. grant writing scholarly publications conference presentations service on university committees).
- Established record of success in serving linguistically and ethnically diverse populations.
- Demonstration of collegial teamwork.
- Willingness to travel to regional center campuses.
- Current knowledge of early childhood education content; the current context of public schooling including the California adopted P12 content standards frameworks and accountability system; diversity in society including diverse abilities culture language ethnicity and gender orientation.
Experience:
- Public school teaching experience serving students in crosscultural settings.
- Experience in mentoringsupervision of candidates in multicultural settings.
- Successful graduate level teaching experience in online or blended environments is preferred.

- 29 units 11 month contract.

Compensation
- $68640 to $125460 is the annual salary for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications experience and internal equity. In addition to compensation APU offers a competitivebenefits package.
