Course Description:

This course teaches students advanced legal writing skills. Students learn to write in different styles and to tailor their writing to different readers. Students will reflect on their writing choices and use those reflections to choose writing techniques and effective strategies for the future. Students will also learn to provide peer feedback to other students and they will practice guiding those students to make great writing choices.

Requirements:

The Common Law Section is seeking candidates who are leaders in the legal profession. A LL.B. or J.D. from a Canadian law school or equivalent is required for this position. Membership in the Law Society of Ontario or equivalent in good standing is an asset. The successful candidate will have significant experience in teaching legal writing skills and in teaching students to provide mentorship and feedback to their peers. Prior teaching experience at the postsecondary level and at law schools will be considered an asset.

The Common Law Section reserves the right to select a candidate who does not fully meet each of these requirements where the candidates selection would be beneficial to the program the course the students or for a related reason.

The candidate may be required to teach this course either online inperson or hybrid mode at the discretion of the Faculty and in accordance with public health guidelines.

An acceptable level of education and/or experience could be viewed as being equivalent to the educational required and/or demonstrated experience.
