About the Team

OpenAIs People team aims to hire engage and retain worldclass talent to safely build and deploy universally beneficial Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). The HR team a vital subset of the People team supports a diverse group of scientists engineers and business professionals with expertise in employee relations immigration compensation and benefits learning and development project management and more.

About the Role

As a Senior HR Business Partner and individual contributor you will support organizational design and deliver tailored employee support in partnership with our broader People team and Centers of Excellence (COEs). You will be a primary and valuable HR partner for managers and their staff across multiple teams exposing you to a diverse slate of leaders and talent. You will lead employee experience initiatives and deliver HR programs with departmental impact.

Your role involves establishing relationships at all organizational levels providing expert guidance on sensitive HR issues and proactively planning to anticipate business needs and drive change management. This role reports to our HRBP Lead based in San Francisco.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the direct HR partner for managers supporting Contributions & Impact management employee engagement and talent retention.

  • Coach managers by providing sincere and helpful feedback and in turn helping them deliver the same to their teams.

  • Lead employee experience initiatives and deliver HR programs and projects with departmental impact.

  • Develop and execute forwardthinking strategies with a quarterly outlook to anticipate business needs and drive effective change management.

  • Build strong relationships at all levels and provide expert guidance on sensitive HR issues.

Were seeking:

  • HR Expertise: 7 years of experience in HRBP employee relations and talent management.

  • Employee Support & Manager Coaching: Experience in managing employee relations matters along with coaching managers through delicate matters in partnership with ER.

  • ProblemSolving & Forecasting: Excellent critical thinking root cause problemsolving abilities and proficiency in using People metrics for datadriven decisions. Ability to diagnose cultural or management issues and implement effective strategies for improvement.

  • Agility & Growth: Ability to thrive in a fastpaced dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities while continuously learning and adapting.

  • Leadership & Change Management: Strong ability to manage vertically and laterally support leaders drive change management initiatives and lead organizational growth or transformation with experience serving as a trusted advisor to managers.

  • Communication & Relationship Building: Excellent verbal and written communication skills capable of drafting performance plans annual reviews and employee policies. Proven ability to build relationships offer expert insights challenge leaders and maintain productive relationships.

  • Judgment & Integrity: Excellent decision making skills and a sense of urgency. Known for fostering respectful trusting relationships across all levels of the organization and for delivering thoughtful sometimes tough feedback with care.

Workplace & Location

This role is based in our San Francisco office and we chose this location due to proximity of the technical teams youd support. We offer relocation support to new employees and we use a hybrid work model: three days in the office per week with optional work from home on Thursdays and Fridays.

Our openplan offices have heightadjustable desks conference rooms phone booths wellstocked kitchens full of snacks and drinks three inhouse prepared meals daily a private outdoor space for working in the sun or socializing nap rooms private bike storage and more.
