Carlow University is now accepting applications for our parttime ELL & Writing Consultant role. This is an hourly 10month academic year position not to exceed 20 hours per week worked. Job Responsibilities: Hold and facilitate weekly programming to meet the unique needs of the growing ELL student population at Carlow University. Collaborate with faculty to provide pedagogical support and programming to ensure ELL student success. Stay updated on best practices and research in the fields of composition and second language acquisition. Create revise publicize and facilitate inclass or recorded workshops specific to ELL student writing concerns. Create materials and support resources for ELL students based on current research trends. Create marketing for CAAsponsored ELL programming and social media. Collaborate with other campus groups to provide programming and support for ELL students. Assist in implementing best practices for peer tutors to work with ELL students. Sit it on content peer tutoring appointments with ELL students to provide support. Tutor a diverse student population in writing and research across disciplines with a focus on ELL students. Provide inperson and online writing tutoring at the undergraduate and graduate level 15 hours/week) subject to semester demands through all stages of the writing process. Assist the CAA with other initiatives as needed including collaborating with the CAA Director and Writing Support Coordinator on workshops and resources. Participate in campus events as needed and represent CAA on University committees as required. Familiarization and assistance with tutoring scheduling system. Must demonstrate the following: Skills and knowledge of second language acquisition theory and best practices Awareness and acceptance of cultural and linguistic differences. Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to speak to groups of varying sizes. A commitment to academic excellence and inclusive education practices. A thorough understanding of ELL and communications disciplines. A commitment to ELL student success and a familiarity with the issues and strategies to accomplish this goal. Ability to view and critique student writing in a way that encourages learning Sensitivity to students with diverse backgrounds and learning needs. Ability to establish rapport and a positive learning environment with traditional and adult students and with faculty and staff. The ability to maintain confidentiality and professional demeanor. The ability to work both independently and in a team environment. Thorough understanding of the functions and operations of an academic institution.
