About Commonwealth Fusion Systems:
Commonwealth Fusion Systems is on a mission to deliver the urgent transition to fusion energy.
Combining decades of research top talent and new technologies were designing and building commercially viable fusion power plants. And working with policymakers and suppliers to build the energy industry of the future.
Were in the best position to make it happen. Since 2018 weve raised over $2 billion in capital more than any other fusion energy company in the U.S.
Now were looking for more thinkers doers builders and makers to join us. People wholl bring new perspectives solve tough problems and thrive as part of a team.
If thats you and this role fits we want to hear from you.
Join the power movement as an R&D Electromagnetic Analysis Engineer
The R&D teams mission at CFS is to vet potential technical solutions in order to guide the overall SPARC subsystem design and plan for the technology needs of future fusion power plants and spinoff projects. This individual within the R&D team will perform electromagnetic (EM) analysis of superconducting magnets using finite elements and other methods. This analysis includes the nonlinear anisotropic behavior of hightemperature superconductors (HTS) in both insulated and noninsulated magnet systems. Incorporating multiphysics (heat transfer fluids mechanics etc) into 3D FEA models is also crucial to modeling the multiphysics behavior of superconducting magnets. This individual will also work with a team of experimentalists and engineers to validate simulations against experimental data. Familiarity with both commercial finite element analysis software packages and developing custom inhouse code and extensions of commercial packages is necessary.
This work is conducted within a multidisciplinary team of physicists and engineers as part of collaborative sponsored research projects at the MIT Plasma Science and Fusion Center and within CFS. To be successful in this role participation and clear concise communication in design and test activities is necessary to both inform design decisions and correlate models to experiment.
