Continuing Education

25OTH17 Summer School SERT

LOCATION: Virtual (asynchronous) with connection to Continuing Education

DATES & HOURS: June 30 2025 Julyhours)

FEDERATION AFFILIATION: While performing this position you are a member of the Ontario Secondary School teachers Federation representing the District 18 Teachers Bargaining Unit. Union dues will apply.

RATE of PAY: $62.66/hour

JOB SUMMARY:

The successful applicant(s) will work with the Summer School Supervisor and summer school teaching staff to support students with special education needs registered in Grade 8 reachahead credits and secondary school credits.

All UGDSB secondary and Grade 8 reachahead courses are being offered in an online asynchronous format for the summer of 2025.

Summer SERTs will:

Understand and be familiar with the Individual Education Plans (IEPs) of students in the program(s)

Understand individual student needs in the context of the program/credit and assist teachers with planning for accommodations

Assist in the adaptation of course materials for students with special education needs in the program(s)

Work with students with special education needs to ensure their proficiency in Google Classroom Google Meet Google Chat in addition to other assistive technology they may require for success in their credit

Communicate collaboratively with teachers parents and supervisors/administration re: student needs and student progress

Provide individualized support to students as needed

Assist teacher(s) with the collection of diagnostic/evaluative work

Online summer courses will have a workday of 6 hours. Teachers can schedule those hours in consultation with the Online Summer School Supervisor between 8:00 a.m. & 5:00 p.m. each day of the summer term.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualifications in the Intermediate/Senior division

Minimum Special Education Part 1

Experience delivering curriculum through online learning platforms (e.g. Brightspace and Google Classroom)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Teachers must be able to work within Canada throughout the full duration of summer school. Access to the online learning platform is not available outside of the country.

**Special Education Resource positions will be based on enrollment of students with special education needs in program(s).
