Austal(ASX: ASB) is Australias global shipbuilder Defence prime contractor and maritime technology partner of choice; designing constructing and supporting defence and commercial vessels for the worlds leading operators. The company operates shipbuilding and sustainment facilities in Australia the USA Philippines and Vietnam.
Austal Australia is delivering multiple naval shipbuilding and sustainment programs for the Royal Australian Navy Australian Border Force and the Department of Defence employing approximately 1000 people in facilities in located Western Australia Queensland and the Northern Territory.
Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement (SSA)

We are on our path towards becoming the Commonwealths Strategic Shipbuilder in the West aiming to be in contract for the Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement (SSA). Join us for this exciting opportunity to be part of continuous naval shipbuilding contributing and significant work for the Australian Defence Force.
The SSA will establish an overarching program which enables the design and build of vessels at the Henderson Shipyard. The objective of the SSA is to possess the capacity and capability to initially deliver Landing Craft Medium & Heavy for the Australian Army in supporting continuous naval shipbuilding in WA.
The SSA is about establishing the capability within the Henderson Precinct and Western Australia to continuously build vessels for the Commonwealth. It will be led by Austal and will require the engagement of local industry supply chain and workforce to be successful.

About the Opportunity
The Electrical Engineer is a key position within the Design and Engineering team delivering together. Youll be.
- Producing accurate information and documentation which meets all procedural and auditable requirements.
- Ensuring work deadlines are met and construction deliverables are not compromised or missed.
- Remaining well acquainted with the task schedule and regularly checks progress and upcoming deliverables.
- Completing tasks on or ahead of schedule (without compromising the output)
- Managing design inputs from third parties such as drawings certification and manuals.
- Demonstrating a high attention to detail.
- Producing work at a high quality and consistent with Austal and Design standards.
- Undertaking tasks as per the approved process and procedures
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical/Mechatronics).
- A solid understanding of LV & ELV Power generation and distribution.
- A solid understanding of electrical engineering calculations e.g Short Circuit Battery calcs
- Advanced AutoCAD Skills.
- A solid understanding of Production methods and the practical application of design.
Desirable
- Experience working within a similar position designing the elements of all electrical systems on both aluminium & steel vessels.
- A basic understanding of typical ship mechanical systems to the extent of how they work and the interface between the electrical and mechanical systems is ideal for this position.
- A sound practical and working knowledge of regulatory bodies rules and regulations and the ability to liaise and communicate with them as necessary.
- >3 years relevant experience.
- Hold a Construction safety induction (white card).
- Understanding of defence contract framework
- Eligible to obtain and uphold a Baseline Security Clearance.
Security Clearance roles (desirable): Due to the Security Clearance required for this position applicants must be an Australian Citizen and eligible to obtain and uphold a Baseline Security Clearance through the Australian Department of Defence.
