Job Description

The Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA) is dedicated to strengthening New York Citys vibrant cultural life by providing funding and support to New York Citys cultural community including the 34 institutions that comprise the Cultural Institutions Group (CIG) and more than 1000 nonprofit cultural organizations that receive annual support. This constituency represents a diverse array of organizations including performing arts groups museums theaters zoos botanical gardens visual arts and film centers communitybased organizations and arts education programs that are central to the life of communities in every corner of New York City. DCLA also manages a significant portfolio of cultural capital projects; provides free donated materials and supplies for arts programs and arts educators through its Materials for the Arts program; provides capacity building and technical assistance support to cultural groups; and commissions works of permanent public art through the Citys Public Art Program.

We are seeking a summer graduate intern to support the Programs Units Assistant Commissioner Directors and program officers who are responsible for coordinating the review of the Fiscal Year 2026 CDF proposals. The intern will report to the Director of Operations and Director of Program Administration of the Programs Unit and work with the Programs Unit staff members that coordinate and lead each CDF review panel.

The Programs unit expects to conduct panels Tuesdays and Fridays starting June 24 2025 through September 30 2025. The intern will be present approximately 9:30AM 4:30PM with an additional day during the week for postpanel reporting. Expected commitment is 3 days a week 7 hours a day. All work will be conducted in person from our office in lower Manhattan.


Specific duties include:

Documentation of panel proceedings: coordinating materials to document the conversation among panelists that supports their scoring recommendation.
Document creation: generating documents for each panel by taking detailed notes and preparing documents at the close of each session for reporting.
Additional document review: supporting the Programs Unit staff in the creation of documentation to present panel outcomes to the Commissioner.
Facilitate all technical logistics of the virtual panel session: including managing Zoom logistics sharing screen timekeeping and transitioning the group to and from breaks.


Special Skills/Area of Study:

Masters degree in artsrelated subjects in education performance management or administration (i.e. Music Education Arts Administration Arts Management etc.
Familiarity with the arts and culture field in New York City.
Ability to exercise discretion in documenting panel proceedings.
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Experience and familiarity with Microsoft Office programs particularly Microsoft Excel is preferred.
Ability to learn the basics of DCLAs database prior to the beginning of the panel sessions if it is determined that such notes will be entered into the database.
Confident typist and able to perform the required duties in a fastpaced environment.
Highly organized with strong attention to detail.

Qualifications :
