Details:

OnCall Cultural Resources Field TechnicianField Archaeologist
Responsibilities:
* Conducting archaeological pedestrian surveys shovel testing auger probes screening and describing soil deposits.
* Documenting archaeological and historic resources. Must be able to (or learn to) take accurate field notes and draw accurate soil profiles and plan view sketch maps
* In time the position may require completing site forms narrative site descriptions and written contributions to reports
* Using a digital camera to photodocument artifacts features and site locations and keeping an accurate photo log
* Performing basic analysis of artifacts in the field
* Consulting with field supervisor concerning unusual problems and developments
Responsibilities: cultural resources pedestrian surveys shovel testing GPS use field documentation and potentially data analysis GIS and reporting tasks for qualified individuals.

Travel: Yes 100 field assignment)

Workweek: Variable oncall 6 days a week/60 hours per week when on field assignment (but will be variable depending on assignment weather and other factors). The 6/60 the schedule will be variable but a lot of the proposals are for ten 10hour days for the field assignments.

Meals (food per diem) and lodging are paid on days off in the field.
Requirements:
* Bachelors Degree in Anthropology History Museum Studies or related field and preferably have attended an archaeological field school.
* 02 years experience working on cultural resources surveys or projects. In some cases field school applied coursework or laboratory work in anthropology archaeology or related field may be substituted for professional experience with the right candidate.
* Valid drivers license and clean driving record
* Knowledge of cultural resources survey and excavation techniques preferred ability to process (wash catalog and mark) recovered archaeological artifacts and complete field and laboratory forms.
  • Strong attention to detail eagerness to learn and ability to following specific instructions and safety procedures is required.
* Must be able to perform extensive manual labor including excavation with shovels screening fill and walking long distances.
* Physically able to extensively perform bending kneeling standing and lifting occasionally carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
* Requires working in outdoor environments prolonged walking and standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions often in remote locations.
* Basic knowledge of GIS applications Microsoft applications helpful.
* Flexibility to travel overnight including outofstate travel for a minimum of 10 days at a time
* Excellent work ethic and teamplayer attitude
Preferred Qualifications
* General familiarity with cultural resource management laws and practice including Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance.
* Some cultural resource survey experience is preferred.
* Some experience with conducting laboratory and field artifact analysis of both prehistoric and historic material is preferred.
* Experience with data collection using a handheld GPS unit is preferred but not required.
